About Umeme:
Umeme is a public company cross
listed on both the Uganda Securities Exchange and the Nairobi Securities
Exchange with over 6,483 shareholders, including high value international
institutional investors. Umeme operates under a concession with a structural
monopoly in the distribution of electricity across Uganda, distributing 99% of
electricity in Uganda through a single buyer model.
Job Summary: The Marketing
Manager will be responsible for defining the marketing strategy i.e. Plan,
Implement and review programs/activities and offer general oversight portfolio
of products and services in line with the Business Plan, Company Policies &
best practices.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Plan
    and coordinate the development and review of the annual Company marketing
    and product development plan for Umeme limited in line with the Umeme
    business plan and policies.
  • In
    charge of the development and coordination of Umeme’s research and market
    information systems and make recommendations/,adjustments in line with the
    Company business plan
  • Work
    in liaison with the communication department to drive both internal and
    external communication interrelationships.
  • Plan,
    co-ordinate and monitor the development of new innovative products along
    customer segments and review performance of the innovations against set
    benchmarks in line with the business plan, market information and the
    regulatory frame work.
  • Plan,
    develop and co-ordinate the implementation of promotion and publicity
    activities/programs for Specific Customer segments in line with the Business
    Plan and Company Policies.
  • Identify,
    develop, plan and expand Umeme’s products and services to new locations in
    the various customer segments in line with the business plans and
    regulatory framework.
  • Commercialization
    of the Prepaid metering services, Automated Meter Reading, alternative
    payment among others.
  • Actively
    co-ordinate training of staff (Frontline Managers) in effective marketing
    skills as well as implement a system of coaching and mentoring in
    effective relationship management skills.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  
  • The
    ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree in a Business or related
    field with Bias in Marketing or Consumer Behaviour. Possession of a post
    Graduate Qualification/professional qualification in Marketing is an added
  • Excellent
    track record in marketing with eight (8) plus years’ experience (4) of
    which should have been in a managerial Role in an FMCG sector.
  • Past
    project management experience will be an added advantaged
