About CEDP:
The Government of Uganda has received
credit from the World Bank towards implementation of the Competitive and
Enterprise Development Project (CEDP). The project development objective (PDO)
is to improve the competitiveness of enterprises in Uganda through supporting
reforms in priority productive and service sectors geared towards a better
investment climate with particular focus on MSMEs.
The five-year project comprises
of four major components and will be implemented by seven agencies. However,
the overall coordination of the Project will lie with the Private Sector
Foundation Uganda (PSFU) through a Project Coordination Unit (PCU).
Job Summary: The Driver, CEDP will provide reliable and safe driving
services to the project operations staff and consultants ensuring high accuracy
of work.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Ensures provision of reliable and secure driving
    services by driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized
    personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other related
    goods and supplies in/out of Kampala under the authorization of the
    supervisor.
  • Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle
    through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to
    preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned
    vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs,
    timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.
  • Ensure that the vehicles have insurance cover and
    that parking fees are promptly settled.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is strictly used for official/
    authorized project activities
  • Undertake refueling of vehicles as per guidelines.
  • Ensures availability of all the required
    documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory,
    and map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts.
  • Find the most direct and safe routing over the
    available roads to the destination
  • Take proper measurement and calculation to reduce
    potential security threats to project staff or property within the
    immediate vicinity of the vehicle and along transport routes.
  • Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules
    and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and discreteness
    in discussion that involves the project and its officials.
  • Inform the supervisor immediately about mechanical
    problems which result from normal use and accident or theft immediately to
    both the Administrative Officer and Police.
  • Ensure that steps required by rules and regulations
    pertaining to driving are adhered to at all times.
  • Perform any other official duties assigned by the
    supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The Driver should be a Ugandan national who has
    completed Secondary Education (Uganda Certificate Education –UCE) or
    relevant Driving training qualification by recognized trainers.
  • Hold a Valid Driver’s license: Applicants should
    possess at least 2 classes, (B, CH and DL) for the Uganda driving permit.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in driving with a
    clean record.
  • The
    Driver must demonstrate a client-oriented approach, with high sense of
    responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of
    different national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Be
    a person of high integrity, honesty and
    versatility.
  • A certificate in motor vehicle maintenance and
    defensive driving will be an added advantage.
  • Fluency in English.
