Job Summary:  The
Community Development Assistant will be responsible for ensuring quality and
scalable impact of the agriculture and saving component of the LIFE project in
collaboration with selected local facilitators within a designated ADP. Some of
the key duties include; capacity building of producer groups on Agriculture
production based on the Farmer Field School(FFS) methodology, facilitating
value chain development, mobilizing the project participants into saving groups
and training them on the savings group (VSLA) methodology, monitoring and
reporting project progress.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
1. Project implementation:
  • Provide
    extension services to project using Farmer Field School (FFS) methodology
    and the local facilitators in recommended agricultural practices.
  • Identify
    lead/ potential project participants for planting materials multiplication
    and standard maintenance.
  • Organize
    Child Nutritional and farmers field days as well as farmers exchange
    visits.
  • Create
    awareness of child protection in the community and among local institutions/
    CBOs.
  • Organize
    and conduct voucher support for participants to access and utilize
    agriculture production technologies.
  • Facilitate
    local value chain development in the community.
  • Actively
    facilitate the use the saving groups methodology and linkages to ensure
    participants have access to financial service.
2. Capacity building and Training:
  • In
    charge of  conducting trainings to
    build capacities on; group management, financial literacy, basic market
    skills, value chain innovation, NRM, production skills and savings
    methodology
  • Recruitment,
    training, coaching and supervision of local facilitators
  • Offer
    ongoing training of producer groups and saving groups in identified
    technical gaps.
  • Actively
    monitor multiplication plots for adherence to improved agricultural
    techniques.
  • Conduct
    weekly support visits to the groups to ensure that the groups are saving
3. Mobilization and Group Facilitation:
  • Responsible
    for the mobilization of producers into functional producer and saving
    groups.
  • Mobilization
    and awareness raising with local leadership.
  • Mobilize
    and sensitize local famers, local and regional traders for voucher
    distribution.
  • Mobilization
    of participants to participate in financial institution, buyers and input
    dealers outreach meetings.
4. Engagement and Networking:
  • Identify
    and build strategic linkages, relations, collaborations and networks with
    partners and other stakeholders in implementation.
  • Link
    the project participants to technology inputs, saving tool kits and
    survives.
  • Facilitate
    project review meetings with key stakeholders (local facilitators) in the
    community.
  • Ensure
    that LIFE project activities are integrated or synchronized with ongoing
    ADP interventions in order to ensure sustainability and avoid duplication
5. Documentation and Reporting:
  • Send
    timely, accurate, compliant and quality reports to the direct supervisors.
  • Document
    and report initial market assessment findings
  • Conduct
    monitoring and savings data collection, verification and submission of the
    accurate savings data.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  
  • The
    ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor Degree in Agriculture or related
    fields; specialization in crop science or extension is preferred with
    strong experience of agriculture production processes and value chain
    development.
  • At
    least three years’ experience in value chain development, agribusiness,
    seed multiplication, market led agriculture or holistic livelihood project
    implementation.
  • Specialized
    training value chain development, farming as a business, seed
    multiplication, VSLA methodology and or collective marketing is an added
    advantage.
  • Strong
    experience in networking, community mobilization and facilitation
  • Report
    writing experience,
  • Commitment
    to implementing WVs vision and mission at all levels and in all aspects of
    the project is necessary,
  • Relevant
    teamwork experience and good interpersonal skills
  • Ability
    to work sensitively with people from a variety of social backgrounds is
    required.
  • Working
    knowledge of the local language will be an added advantage.
  • Mature
    Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.
