Job Summary: The Head of Trade Finance will steer a trade products &
solutions team(s) serving Large Corporate and Business Banking and other in
country portfolios including being the overall product specialist for the trade
products. The primary objective is to grow the banks trade business by
maximizing on the trade systems (internal and external), products and external
trade related relationships on an aggregate basis and ensure the bank does
deliver the service to the corporate customer in accordance with their wants
and needs
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Sales and
Services: 20%
  • Continuous improvement of  product features & /or offering by
    identifying new and existing systems/product potential and realise these
    through revitalisation & 
    modification, introduction of new products and new promotion
    initiatives in accordance with the Bank’s strategy
  • Responsible for the formulation of strategies to
    ensure required  level of specialist
    support is extended to Large Corporate and Business Banking that will
    ensure we meet business development strategies and objectives
  • Actively monitor conformance of  product team for operational performance
  • Monitor results of customer surveys against target
    product & service standards
  • Proactively research competitive
    threats/opportunities in relation to our trade products  offering (together with the strategic
    development of competitor, market and legislative knowledge.
  • Regularly inform the relationship teams on (new)
    products knowledge and product changes
  • Keep relationship teams advised on the expected
    ‘delivery date’ for anticipated new product developments/solutions
    delivery
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to credit and
    operational risk management
2. Product
and Business Management: 50%
  • Develops and maintains a detailed knowledge of market
    and competitor trends within the regional market and to a large extent
    global markets in the trade finance area
  • Ensure control of the credit and operational risk
    management for the overall Team/product range
  • Manage the service performance for the overall Team’s
    range of product portfolio
  • Manage the performance of the team against key
    specialist sales, product sales support, service performance and
    operational targets
  • Champion, manage and monitor implementation of the
    change impacting the team and arising from central and local corporate
    market programmes
  • Manage allocation of the product portfolio and
    appropriate tariff pricing
  • Consult corporate & business banking relationship
    teams on pricing, solutions, issues to do with product/service
    performance, business practices/ideas and best practices
  • Develop Corporate Sales Support relationship plans
    for Corporate & Business Banking Teams together with the relevant
    Corporate Directors
  • Develop Client Product Plans together with Heads of
    Corporate and Business Banking
  • Assess quality of support given the corporate sales
    function including personal input on credit risk & operational risk
    management, specifically on tailored customer specific solutions
3. People
Management: 30%
  • Assist the team members to identify strengths and
    weaknesses in their own skills and attributes, review their self-
    development plans and ensure training and development needs are
    accommodated
  • Mentor, train and coach team members on product
    management , service quality and achieving high performance
  • Assess the product managers performance against
    performance contract. Review and input to performance development reviews.
  • Ensure that the succession plans are in place
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor’s degree
    in Commerce, banking, Economics or Similar. Possession of an MBA Degree
    Preferred
  • At least seven years’ experience in a
    product/customer management role at senior level, as well as product
    implementation and have experience and understanding of operational risk
    management
  • Possess expert knowledge of the core set of products
    and a good appreciation of Group product set
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the
    sophisticated customers and their requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of product economics and pricing
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of policies and
    strategies within the region as they relate to the demands of the customer
    base
  • Possess the ability to develop & execute the
    Country strategy
