and Construction Company Limited (NHCC) was founded in 1964 and is a Ugandan
construction and real estate management company, partly owned by the Uganda
Government. The Company’s mandate is to increase the housing stock in the
country, rehabilitate the housing industry and encourage Ugandans to own homes
in an organized environment.
Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and supervision of structural
engineering aspects of construction works of on-going Company projects, with a
view to ensuring that they are carried out according to specifications and best
practices, as well as established policies and procedures.
- Interpret
architect’s building plans and design and detail structural engineering
designs, calculations and bending schedules. - In
charge of interpreting building plans and supervise the structural
engineering / reinforcement details during construction of the housing
projects, as per specifications and schedules. - Oversee
and coordinate soil geotechnical investigations and material tests for
purposes of structural foundation designs and construction standards. - Maintain
an up-to-date library of codes, standards and handbooks of requirements
and recommendations for professional reference. - Prepare
monthly project progress reports, weekly project briefs for the Head of
Section. - Prepare
necessary documentations for applications to local authorities for
approval. - Lodge
project drawings to the local authorities and follow them up regularly to
ensure speedy approvals. - Oversee
the on-going construction works at project sites in order to ensure strict
adherence to structural designs. - Manage
and coordinate externally sourced infrastructure design consultants to
ensure value for money. - Provide
the Company’s Management, whenever necessary, with relevant specialist, expert and technical advice (on the
basis of appropriate and comprehensive analysis and evaluation), with
regard to the Company’s investment opportunities and projects – especially
those involving Partnerships, External Contractors and other Service Providers
– as well provide the necessary supervision, quality assurance, facilitation and
coordination of the implementation of the corresponding projects – with a view
to ensuring their profitable success. - Manage
and develop staff under his/her supervision, through, inter alia,
professional training, coaching, delegation, appraisal and feedback. - Perform
any other duties as may, from time to time, be directed by the relevant
authority.
- The
ideal candidate should hold a Degree in Civil Engineering, or a closely
related and relevant discipline, from a recognized University. - At
least four years’ experience as a Design Engineer, or in a similar
position, in a large and reputable Construction, or Civil Works Company, or
reputable Consultancy firm, or on any other large civil works project. - Full
and valid membership of a nationally, or internationally recognized
professional Engineers’ Institute, or body, such as MUIPE, is a must. - Specialized
training, with appropriate qualifications in Project Planning and
Management, from a recognized institution, are a must. - Additional
qualifications in Business Management, from a recognized institution, are
desirable. - Proven
working knowledge and skills in application of Engineering-related
Software and MS Office Packages (especially AutoCAD, Revit, Prokon, Word,
Excel and PowerPoint), are essential. - Proven
working experience in housing, or civil works project implementation, with
evidence of successful projects, is essential. - Past
exposure and experience in working with public, or private sector
organizations involved in housing-related projects, or programs, shall be
an added advantage. - Proven
negotiation and communication skills. - Results-oriented,
business-focused and pays attention to details. - Coordination
and networking skills. - Cost
consciousness and proven ability to pursue value for money. - Excellent
project supervision skills. - Excellent
analytical, accuracy and judgmental skills. - Strong
IT and computer proficiency skills. - Proven
good presentation and reporting abilities - Excellent
interpersonal and human relations skills, as well as a team-player. - Maturity,
high ethics and integrity. - A
confident, independent, articulate and reliable personality. - Possess
the ability to work under tight deadlines, for long hours and to deliver
high quality outputs with minimal supervision.
