Uganda (HAU) (national organization) has promoted modern methods of pain and
symptom control as well as “whole-person” (holistic) care for
patients living with cancer and HIV/AIDS. HAU strives to uphold excellent
clinical standards and provide quality education courses and advocacy
activities to promote the spread of palliative care throughout Uganda and
Africa.
Nurse will provide leadership, control, strategic direction, management and
support for the Palliative Care (PC) Nursing Services across the three Hospice
sites. The incumbent will also advocate for Hospice palliative care nursing
model, network widely with other health providers; provide advice and guidance
on issues relating to PC Nursing practice.
- Develops,
reviews and implements the PC Nursing strategy for HAU; advocates for the
PC Nursing Care services within HAU and in the wider healthcare forums in
Uganda and Africa; - The
Senior Nurse will be responsible for standard setting, and ensuring
compliance with regulation.
- Ensure
the delivery of high quality PC Nursing services; - Provides
technical nursing advice and support; - Manages
the nursing teams to deliver high standards of care and ensure continuity
of care for patients; - Updates
and maintains excellent communication within HAU and with key
stakeholders; - Ensures
proper documentation and record-keeping.
Teaching and Development:
- Mentor,
train and supervise the Health Service Coordinators, supervising and
reviewing performance; - The
incumbent also ensures PC service delivery in accordance with policies and
procedures; ensures the Nurses have the skills required to deliver high
quality service; - Actively
coordinate the different medical teams, support services,
education/learning activities. - Ensures
proper budget management for PC Services and promotes access to
comprehensive quality PC services.
- The
applicant should hold a degree in Nursing; Public Health and significant
experience in leadership and management in healthcare. - Specialized
training in palliative care, cancer care, and education is an added
advantage. - A
minimum of three to five years’ experience in African Palliative care in a
senior nursing position.
