Approach
When clients come to FINCA for
a loan, most of them are already micro-entrepreneurs. They have enough
experience to know that, without additional working capital, their odds of
becoming or staying profitable and productive, or of making improvements in
their lives, remain low. They are looking for a business loan, much like any
other entrepreneur, but at a micro level.
Job Summary: The Regional
Analyst will be responsible for the:
  • Oversight
    and management of the financial reporting, analysis, and
    budgeting/forecasting functions for the African subsidiaries;
  • Management
    of Hub finances and administrative activities; direct support to all Hub
    staff, especially to the Regional Director. S/he will be responsible for
    managing the local Hub office expenses and physical assets.
  • Serve
    as a regional coordinator for all regional meetings
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Oversight and management of
the financial reporting, analysis, and budgeting/forecasting functions for the
African subsidiaries:
  • Keenly
    track the financial performance of the subsidiaries and follow up with
    corrective actions to improve liquidity, financial solvency and financial
    health, with regular progress and special reports for the Regional
    Director, Subsidiary and F/I BOD, and F/I departments as needed.
  • Actively
    monitor the timely submission of Subsidiary reports and ensure compliance
    to regulatory and accounting requirements; create trend analysis as well
    as other variance reports to assist Subsidiaries in early identification
    of key issues. When necessary, follow up with the implementation of
    corrective actions.
  • Actively
    participate in monthly ALCO meetings to monitor, forecast and respond to
    subsidiary liquidity and funding requirements.
  • Ensure
    Hub staff and Africa Subsidiaries submit complete and timely reports as
    required by the Regional Director and by FI (daily, weekly, monthly,
    quarterly, etc.)
  • Ensure
    adherence and compliance with policies, systems and methodologies
    established and approved by F/I; as well as regular review and
    implementation of benchmarks set by F/I in the Subsidiaries.
  • When
    required by the Regional Director, effect field visits to the
    Subsidiaries.
2. Management of Hub finances
and administrative activities:
  • Significantly
    contribute to the proper management of the Hub’s resources and the
    coordination with Headquarters and other Hubs
  • Ensure
    proper use of the Hub facilities and the economic resources by creating
    the annual Hub Budget and ensuring spending is within the approved budget.
  • Ensure
    proper liquidation of expenses and advances.
  • Defend
    the interest of FINCA International, particularly within the region.
  • When
    required, represent F/I and the Regional Office in local or regional
    events.
  • Work
    in liaison with the Regional Director, prepare and comply with the work
    plan.
  • Immediately
    inform Regional Director of important issues.
  • Actively
    support F/I promotional and fund raising activities. When required,
    support the preparation of special reports for donors and F/I.
  • Comply
    with F/I deadlines, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain
    good coordination and collaboration with other staff members.
  • Expedite
    consultation with other departments of F/I.
  • Present
    travel reports and progress reports of important issues.
3. Act as regional coordinator
for all regional meetings:
in
charge of the coordination of logistics and communication of regional meetings
for Board meetings, workshops and training events
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or
    Banking; or BA Degree in Business with Post Degree in Finance, Accounting
    and Banking; or equivalent working experience.
  • Possession
    of professional qualifications i.e. CPA, ACCA or other Accounting
    certifications is and added advantage.
  • International
    work experience; work experience in Africa or other developing markets a
    plus
  • The
    Regional Analyst should have at least two to four years’ experience in
    department coordination, preferably in the areas of finance or accounting.
    Proven experience in at least three of the following areas:
    • Department Coordination, including budget creation and monitoring
    • Spreadsheet and financial model development
    • Database management
    • Preparation and administration of grant proposals
    • Financial analysis, planning and budgeting in general
    • Credit policy, particularly in Microfinance
    • Cash/Liquidity planning and management
  • Computer
    literacy Skills: High degree of computer literacy (MS-Office, especially
    Excel).
  • Exceptional
    Reasoning Ability
  • Excellent
    analytical and report writing skills.
  • Outstanding
    interpersonal skills.
  • Sound
    decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability
    to work with international teams located in various timezones
  • Ability
    to work under pressure
  • Ability
    to speak in public
Language Skills: Fluency in English required. Fluency in
French and/or Swahili a plus.
