The National Forestry Authority
(NFA) is a Government agency established under the National Forestry and Tree
Planting Act, 2003 as a corporate body responsible for sustainable development
and management of Central Forest Reserves (CFRs) and provision of technical support
to stakeholders in the forest sub-sector.
Job Summary: The NFA
Legal Manager will oversee all litigation matters and ensure compliance with
the Law.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Process
    all litigation matters and represent the Authority in courts of Law.
  • Advise
    on application of Legal instruments governing and relating to the Forestry
    Sector.
  • Offer
    timely legal advisory services to the Board of Directors, Management and
    the entire staff of the Authority.
  • Act
    as liaison with relevant judicial institutions and authorities.
  • Compile
    and send progress and quarterly reports to the Executive Director.
  • Support
    in the negotiation of all legal contracts of the Authority.
  • Keep
    custody of legal documents and seal of the Authority.
  • Works
    closely with the police, NFA staff and other institutions to prosecute
    culprits to non compliance with the law and other regulations.
  • Mentor,
    coach and supervise Legal Staff
  • Perform
    any other duties assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidate for the aforementioned NFA career placement should an
    Honours Degree in Law. Possession of a Postgraduate diploma in Legal
    practice from Law Development Centre.
  • At
    least five years’ experience practicing in a reputable firm or in a similar
    position in a reputable organization.
  • A
    minimum of five years’ experience of handling legal matters, 3 of which
    must be at the high court level.
  • The
    applicant must also be an enrolled advocate with a valid/current
    practicing certificate of the high court
