anticipated USAID-funded regional Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) project
in the Western and Central regions of Uganda. The project will work to increase
access to and utilization of core services for orphaned and vulnerable
children, youth and their caregivers. Services to be strengthened include
health, nutrition, education, psychosocial well-being, and child protection
(reducing abuse, exploitation and neglect).
Strengthening Technical Advisor will be responsible for the design,
implementation and technical quality of strategies and activities to improve
the economic stability of households caring for OVC. He/she will offer technical
leadership to the project to ensure economic strengthening activities are in
line with globally-recognized best practices for addressing needs of OVC, youth
and their caregivers. The incumbent shall also build capacity of staff,
implementing partners, government counterparts, and other stakeholders in
strategies for economic strengthening of households, also ensuring that all
economic strengthening strategies are gender-sensitive and promote equitable programming.
- The
applicant for this USAID OVC Project job opportunity should hold a Master’s
Degree or higher in economics, international development or a related
field required. - Eight
or more ears’ experience designing, implementing and monitoring household
economic strengthening activities working on multifaceted and complex
international development programs. - Five
or more years of technical management experience, including direct
supervision of technical team and implementing partners. - Possess
the ability to work independently and manage a high volume work flow and
ability and willingness to travel to program areas and internationally
required. - Past
exposure and experience in leveraging private sector partnerships and resources
for creation of business opportunities, business mentorship and skills
training, market access, strategies to strengthen household resilience,
etc. - Demonstrated
leadership qualities, depth and breadth of technical and management
expertise and experience, and strong interpersonal, writing, and oral
presentation skills. - At
least two years’ experience living or working in Uganda or another developing
country is preferable. - Past
experience with a United States Government cooperative agreement preferred. - Proven
ability to create and maintain
effective working relations with Uganda government personnel,
stakeholders, NGO partners, and international donor agencies. - Strong
interpersonal, writing and
oral presentation skills in English.
