Bank in November 1999. Standard Chartered Bank Uganda today has a network of 11
branches in Kampala, Jinja, Mbale, Mbarara and Gulu. Standard Chartered Bank
Uganda has 29 ATMs and over 600 staff.
Job Summary: The
Standard Chartered Bank Head of Transaction Banking will oversee and execute
the country strategy for Transactional Banking across Sales, Product
Management, Solution Delivery and Client Service.  The incumbent will also deliver revenue and
balance sheet commitments in line with the Africa Regional Transaction Banking
business.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Deliver superior financial
performance
  • Ensure
    country financial objectives are met.
  • Create
    a sustainable business model around client segments and implement the
    global Transaction Banking strategy.
  • Grow
    and build the business above the market growth rate by identifying
    opportunities and leveraging on our products and network capabilities.
  • Build
    and grow strategic focus around market share growth, client segments,
    scalability of the business, market profile, fit for growth business and
    new markets.
2. Continuously improve the
way we work
  • In
    charge of launching new initiatives, products, developing enhancements,
    new product concepts and preparing business requirements, either
    independently or jointly with regional and global team.
  • Quantify
    and provide information to country & group management by analyzing the
    impact and economic consequences of market trends, changing customer
    requirements and competitor offerings for the dual purpose of performance
    management and strategy development. Implement actions as required.
  • Responsible
    for implementation of working capital model, development of sales plans,
    pipeline management.
  • Ensure
    sales discipline via effective use of in-house tools
  • Build
    discipline around product utilization and monitoring to take informed
    business decisions and forecast.

4. Strengthen partner
relationships: 
  • Plan,
    input, maintain and communicate a strategic view of Transaction Banking
    sales, products and services covering Cash, Trade and Custody, for the
    wholesale banking division.
  • Actively
    coordinate and assume responsibility for compiling and communicating to
    all stakeholders, on a regular basis, information relevant to the business
    covering Transactions Banking Sales, Product activities related to Cash,
    Trade and Solution Delivery as well as key financial performance.
  • Networking
    with other countries, regions and Group.
5. Reinforce the brand :
  • Understand
    the local market in terms of size, share, structure, potential, customer
    segmentation, buyer behaviors and competitor analysis in the country, for
    the relevant product sets. Lead and support market research as required.
  • Organize
    and carry out competitor benchmarking exercise to help shape the bank’s
    sales, marketing, product, pricing and service strategies.
  • Take
    lead in and coordinate customer surveys (internal and external); assist
    with submissions for awards, tombstones, etc.
    Represent the bank at thought leadership forums and industry events.
  • Promote
    the Standard Chartered Bank brand.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidate for the MBA or equivalent academic qualifications
  • Ten
    or more years’ experience in Corporate and Investment Banking with over 4
    years of senior client solutioning and sales in the Africa Region.
  • Strong
    people and sales management skills and experience (multi-cultural),
    ideally with relevant banking and corporate background.
  • Solid
    and proven frontline transactional sales experience across Working
    Capital, Trade Finance (documentary trade products, i.e. L.Cs, bonds &
    guarantees; bank & country risk products), Supply Chain Financing
    & Cash Management (global/ regional/ local payment, receipts and
    liquidity management structures, system infrastructure, etc)
  • Skills
    for analyzing and formatting data provided by Finance and other sources.
  • Proven
    treasury, credit and country risk exposure
  • Open
    minded, good listener, flexible with ‘think out of the box’ mentality
  • Strong
    negotiation and presentation skills; ability to communicate with all
    levels in an organization
  • Disciplined
    approach to deal execution/ client follow-up
  • Strong
    cross-cultural awareness
  • Possess
    excellent interpersonal skills
  • Team
    player
  • Excellent
    knowledge of the Banking Policies, Standards, local regulations and
    legislation of the prevention of money laundering.
Language skills: English, both written and oral; additional
languages preferred
