Job Summary: The Dispenser
will ensure the smooth running of day-to-day activities of the pharmacy and
dispensary and AHF Uganda Cares clinics in Masaka, Soroti & St
Balikuddembe. He/she directly oversees all pharmacy and dispensing activities
within the clinic such as planning, monitoring and reporting of
pharmacy/dispensary activities, maintain patient confidentiality, ensure patient
safety, liaising with other team members regarding patient medications. He/she
performs while ensuring delivery of high quality standard of care for all
patients by leading and directing staff and volunteers at the center; carries
out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies
and procedures. “

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Dispensing:
- Dispense
medication as stated on prescriptions, maintaining accurate dispensing
records and ensuring that the medication is labeled correctly with –
strength, quantity, directions for use To adhere to practice policies and
procedures for dispensing medicines Provide a second-check on all
medication issued. - Maintain
minimum stock levels of medicines, checking expiry dates and storage
conditions. - Place
accurate and timely orders with suppliers and accept deliveries of
medication, adding them to the computerized stock control records.
Maintain dispensary equipment, ensuring it is clean, accurate and in a
good state of repair.
2. Communication:
- Quickly
respond to queries from patients, hospitals, partners etc, whether by
face-to-face contact, telephone, email, fax etc. - Works
closely with members of the clinical team regarding updates in the
pharmacy and medication for individual patients. - Communicate
effectively and regularly with other members of the dispensing team to
ensure the accurate exchange of information relating to patients and their
medication.
3. Supervisory
Responsibilities:

- Offers
direct supervision and mentorship to a team of health workers including
Nurses, HIV medics and data entry clerks Provides support and mentorship
to a team of health workers working in collaboration with AHF Uganda Cares
within Masaka, Soroti or St. Balikuddembe clinic respectively. - Monitors
that pharmacy operations are in accordance with the good pharmacy practice
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The
dispensers must be a medical technician dispenser from a recognizable
institution. - Possess at least two years medical/health service experience preferred
with a sound knowledge of HIV basics. - Should
have experience with knowledge of clinical protocols and procedures in the
management of HIV related diseases and logistics management. - Prior
experience in planning and budgeting is desired Experience in quality
management and assurance practices desired
