About Peace Corps: 
The Peace Corps is an agency of the United States Government, which sends American Volunteer development workers to assist in capacity building and technical assistance activities in over 70 countries worldwide.  Peace Corps Uganda invites applicants for the position listed above which is based in Kampala, Uganda.
Job Summary: The Volunteer Support Coordinator will complement Volunteer program staff in managing expectations, addressing issues of adjustment to work and life in Uganda proactively through training and response on an as needed basis.  The activities involve: communications to Volunteers, site development, Volunteer site visits, follow up on Volunteer adjustment issues, tracks and ensures filing of site history files in partnership with program staff, conducts Volunteer resiliency and behavioral trainings.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Direct PCV Support (40%):
  • Assists in the programming and training team in site development for Volunteers. This includes site identification, housing verification, and site issues resolution.
  • Carries out monitoring site visits to existing Volunteers to ensure Volunteer well-being including community integration and effectiveness.
  • Ensures Staff and Volunteer newsletter [PIVOT-Post Information for Volunteers and Training] is sent out regularly [currently it is weekly].
2. Champion Support (20%):
  • On need basis, support to Champions in seeking solutions, as they manage Volunteer issues. These issues may include: cross-cultural conflict, community and work life integration challenges, and post incident recovery.  The Volunteer Support Coordinator listens and advises and where necessary refers possible mental health and /or medical issues to the PCMO.
  • The Volunteer Support Coordinator assists implement the site issues resolution policy.
3. Administrative Support (30%):
  • Implements the Close of Service and Early Termination system including ongoing maintenance of relevant handbook and materials.
  • Maintains Volunteer Handbook with interim policy dissemination and Updates.
  • Creates and coordinates site history files in partnership with Champions.
4. Other (10%): Performs any other duties as assigned by the Director of Programming and Training or Country Director.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the US Embassy Peace Corps Volunteer Support Coordinator job should hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of four years’ experience working in an office-environment assisting to manage or coordinate personal support and training activities. Work experience cross-culturally, preferably with Americans.
  • Excellent computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet programs; excellent command of English, both spoken and written, native ability in spoken and written at least one Ugandan language.
  • Possess the ability to work as a team, extremely flexible with good organization and time management skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel, as needed, throughout the country.
  • Ability to work on regular Monday through Friday schedule with occasional evening and weekend hours when necessary.
