- Oversees the planning budgeting and implementation of national programming strategies and objectives.
- As part of the national management team, gives strategic advice to the National Director and other key staff relating to the development of SOS programmes in the National Association.
- Builds and leads a strong programme team at NO and program/location level to collaboratively develop and implement country-wide programme plans and actions.
- Ensures full implementation of defined SOS programming policies, standards and good practises, quality management, advocacy, Child Protection Policy, education etc.
- Implements appropriate national / programme reporting mechanisms to ensure required standards are maintained and quality care is provided.
- As necessary, represents the programmes function externally, at regional & continental forums, and actively networks with other senior programme staff of other similar organisations as a specialist in this area of work.
- Steers the programme / national plans and objectives in the programming area, ensuring that these are aligned with, and support regional plans and continental priorities. He/she sets the National Direction for location planning.
- Takes lead in the development of efficient working Monitoring and Evaluation working tools and support systems, monitors and supports their implementation.
- Builds the capacity of programme development staff through effectively managing their performance, knowledge sharing activities, on-going coaching & support, training & development etc.
- Leads technical and financial reporting for donor funded/public funded programmes is done in line with established administrative procedures, also ensuring the quality, timeliness of feedback and action, as well as usage of reports.
- Responsible for the initiative for proposal developments towards funding for programmes in conjunction with other programme staff.
- Leads the implementation of sustainability based approaches in programmes using local initiatives and innovations.
- The applicant should preferably hold a good Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Development studies and a related social and community development qualification from a recognized institution.
- A post-graduate qualification in project planning and management, monitoring & evaluation, development studies or a related field from a recognized institution shall be an added advantage.
- A minimum of eight or more years of progressive work experience in programme development work (addressing needs of vulnerable children & communities) preferably with experience at national level in a senior programme development position in the non-profit sector, child care work, and community development or related is a key requirement.
- Thorough understanding of community development using sustainability approaches.
- Good knowledge and understanding of national policies and systems regarding child development work.
- Significant experience in proposal development and working with donor funded programmes.
- Proven experience in provision of technical support, training and mentoring of programme teams.
- Working experience at a National level operation and with one or more areas of programme operation/outlying projects is an advantage.
- Good understanding and experience working with human/child rights, child development approaches, family & community development, advocacy and rights-based programming.
- Past exposure and experience in outreach work, collaborating with local community structures.
- Significant experience in networking and partnerships with government, child rights and other organizations.
