Job Title: Senior Legal Officer (Legal Aid Clinic)

Legal Aid Clinic
(2,600,000 – 3,599,999)
provide legal education to lawyers and non lawyers, undertake research in
topical legal issues, contribute to legal reform, produce legal publications,
teaching materials, law reports and also provide community legal services. Some
of It’s key functions include;
- To
provide legal training to lawyers and non lawyers - To
research into topical legal issues and recommend proposals for law reform - To
provide law reports and legal publications - To
provide community legal services
incumbent will offer Legal Aid service to indigent persons, petty offenders and
children in need of care and protection.
- Compile
and prepare legal documents. - Interview
and counsel clients. - Process
all custody and maintenance cases of children at the Clinic. - Process
and effectively manage cases of human rights violations and HIV/AIDS at
the Clinic. - Actively
facilitate mediation and reconciliation sessions at the Clinic, Police and
Court. - Conduct
research. - Develop
training tools for stakeholders in juvenile justice. - Responsible
for training fit persons and community based volunteers. - Perform
community outreach programmes. - Prepare
for Continuing Legal Education and Street law programmes. - Writing
periodic reports. - Offer
legal advice to LDC and handle court cases involving LDC. - Perform
any other duties assigned by the Manager Legal Aid Clinic or Head of
Department.
- The
applicant should hold an LLB (Hons) degree from a recognized university. - Hold
a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre. - The
applicant must be an enrolled advocate. Possession of an LLM or MBA from a
recognized university is an added advantage. - Postgraduate
training in legal and management is an added advantage. - Four
or more years working experience in a related field. - Past
exposure and experience in litigation, probono work and legal aid service
provision is an added advantage.
