About Project:
The FAO Representation in
Uganda seeks to implement a two year fisheries and aquaculture project within a
broader sub-regional project on Promoting Agricultural Diversification to
Reduce Poverty, Fight Malnutrition and Enhance Youth Employment Opportunities
in Eastern Africa.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Steer
the fisheries and aquaculture activities of the Representation - Offer
project implementation plan supported by required technical information - Assist
in the implementation of fisheries and aquaculture component of the
Country Programming Framework (CPF) - Offer
technical guidance and support on all aspects of the fisheries and aquaculture
value chain. - Identify
Public Private Partnership opportunities to increase fish production in
the country. - Significantly
contribute to a review of aquaculture activities in the project target
areas, with a focus on grow-out fish farms. - Identify
individual farmers and associations wilting and able to run tilapia and/or
catfish grow-out farms. - Identify
constraints for and assess possibilities of establishing profitable and
sustainable grow-out fish farms. - Work
in liaison with individual farmers and associations in setting up and
managing sustainable grow-out fish farms - Identify
and recommend the procurement of the necessary equipment and supplies for
farm management. - Oversee
the construction of grow-out fish farms in the project target areas in
collaboration with the TCDC Pond Construction Specialist. - Organize
training of individual farmers and associations on tilapia and/or catfish
commercial farming - Develop
record keeping and monitoring systems for individual farmers and
associations. - Compile
and send timely reports and the terminal report - Perform
any other related duties as required
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The
ideal candidate for the aforementioned United Nations FAO job opportunity
should possess an advanced university degree in fisheries and/or
aquaculture or a related field. - Five
or more years’ professional experience in fish farm management (grow-out). - At
least five years of proven experience in fisheries/aquaculture training
will be desirable. - Working
knowledge of English and limited knowledge of any major local language. - Extensive
knowledge of the fisheries and/or aquaculture sector in Uganda.
