Job Summary: The
Barclays Trade Finance Officer will be working within the Corporate Team, the
role holder will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships
with a portfolio of Trade Finance customers. The job holder is responsible for
ensuring agreed service levels and requirements for the above mentioned
portfolio are met. The role holder has the responsibility to provide support to
other members of the Corporate Team (both Corporate and Business Banking), Head
Office Divisions, Branches and customers calling on Local and International
Trade Finance matters. The jobholder will be responsible for day to day MI
preparation and monitoring of income accounts and Trade Related Operational
accounts.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Sales and Service: 70 / 80%
  • Process
    all trade customers’ technical enquiries regarding the Bank’s standard trade
    tariff, correspondent bank charges and general exchange of pricing
    information.
  • Provide
    technical support to the Commercial Banking team (Corporate and Business
    Banking) as well as the Retail and other Bank division teams.
  • Deliver
    product knowledge training to Corporate and Business Banking staff, other
    bank Staff and customers.
  • Responsible
    for updating procedure manual with any changes made by government
    authorities / agencies, Central Bank and UK control that may affect
    International Trade.
  • Responsible
    for internal communication of any change of policies, procedures, controls
    relating to Trade Services by issuance of circulars, amendment of Foreign
    Business Manual / Procedure manual.
  • Arrange
    trade payments and monitor outstanding liability positions
  • Intuitively
    review and monitor income accounts on a daily basis
  • Co-ordinate
    set up, amendment and cancellation of letters of credit as well as other
    products maintained on Barclay Trade.
  • Deal
    with inward and outward Trade business (including obtaining necessary
    customer authorities).
  • Obtain
    and action customer instructions through Customer Service Centre and from
    any other point of the Bank.
  • Develop
    and maintain own contacts with individuals within the customer’s
    organization.
  • Serve
    as principal point of contact in Associate Relationship Managers’ absence
    on Trade Finance matters for all trade customers (focus largely on top 20
    customers) – deal with query if able and within responsibility, or record
    details of query for Trade Finance Manager or refer to Relationship
    Manager.
  • Deal
    with customer’s technical queries regarding branch based Bank products and
    services.
  • Deal
    with customer complaints to rectify causes to avoid recurrence of similar
    queries / complaints.
  • Deliver
    of customer training sessions in conjunction with Trade Product and Trade
    Services Manager.
  • Originate
    leads where Trade is identified during the year.
  • Hold
    and outline agenda for monthly financial performance. 
2. Business Management: 20 /
30%
  • Collate
    and analyse customer information on Trade Servicing performance for
    Relationship Managers and the rest of the Trade Product Sales team.
  • Monitor
    and analyse performance for customers on special tariff and vis-à-vis
    performance income versus volumes and share the information with the
    Relationship Managers and the rest of the Trade Product Sales team
  • Maintenance
    / update correspondent bank tariff.
  • Counter
    check income collection by Trade Services in relation to the entire Trade
    customer portfolio to ensure no income leakage.
  • Responsible
    for the management and responsible for Import Letter of Credit
    Re-Financing and Invoice Discounting Products and all Trade Finance
    Products
  • Monitor
    and account for debits to Trade P&L accounts.
  • Monitor
    income earned on non customers relationships.
  • Analyse
    complaint action forms specific to trade and together with the Trade
    Service Assistant of Corporate Service Centre ensure permanent resolution
    of root causes of complaints.
  • Collate
    rebate income earned from correspondent banking arrangements.
  • Apply
    amendments to account details following discussion with Associate
    Relationship Managers, Relationship Manager, Trade Finance Manager and
    Head of Trade on Trade limits, Pricing, Interest and Commission charges.
  • Co-ordinate
    preparation and execution of account related documentation including
    mandates and application forms.
  • Open
    and close accounts and arrange draw down of facilities following
    discussion with the Associate Relationship Manager or Relationship
    Manager.
  • Review
    of Top 30 Trade names on an ongoing monthly basis and relegations from
    this list to be carried out half yearly
  • Control
    of Global Limits & third party credit lines.
  • Compile
    quarterly cross-border limit utilization return to control office in South
    Africa.
  • Ensure
    performance management for self.
  • Compile
    weekly, monthly and quarterly reports for review at the Regional Office in
    South Africa.  
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    applicant for the Banking job should have knowledge of Trade Products and
    Services in the Bank
  • Good
    knowledge of Branch based products and services frequently used by
    corporate customers including features and set up arrangements.
  • Good
    knowledge of internal instructions / procedures including H.O
    instructions, computer accounting instructions, foreign business manuals,
    corporate guide and other in-house manuals on trade related issues.
  • Good
    knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of other members of the
    relationship teams.
  • Good
    knowledge of the Bank’s service standards (including Service Initiative,
    National Complaints initiative, Code of Business and Personal Banking).
  • International
    Trade & Foreign Exchange services and operations 
  • Good
    knowledge of country’s regulatory requirements on import / export.
  • Detailed
    understanding of the roles and responsibilities of individual bases in
    other business units.
  • The
    applicant should have a good understanding of ICC uniform rules &
    practices publications UCP 500/ URC / URDG / URR / ISP98 / ISPB &
    SWIFT standards.
  • Good
    understanding of Trade Processing Systems.
  • Comprehensive
    understanding of Trade Services Operations Skills required to undertake
    the role

    platform applications
