advisors in the field come from a variety of cultural and technical
backgrounds, and over 80 per cent are nationals of the countries where we work.
since 1989. SNV works with over 80 local service providers to reach 200,000
families in over 100 districts. We focus on three sectors: Agriculture,
Renewable Energy and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). We provide
market-oriented advisory services, facilitate evidence-based advocacy and
promote knowledge development aligned with Government of Uganda policies and
priorities in the local contexts of communities we serve.
Advisers will work with our local service providers, providing coaching and
mentoring to improve their technical capacities, and providing guidance in
contract implementation. Our WASH advisers also maintain close contact with the
respective District Local Governments and the various government support
structures (e.g. TSU, UO). Our advisers usually have a specialty in one of the
WASH programme areas, though for now we have a preference for advisers with a
background in sanitation and hygiene promotion.
- Offer
specific technical assistance to the programme; preferred areas of
expertise within the sanitation and hygiene sub-sector are demand
creation, developing sanitation as a business, behavioural change and
small town utility support. Ensure deliverables are met on time and within
budget; - Represent
the program to key stakeholders within the community and government- - Actively
coordinate program activities with partners, specifically district local
government; - Offer
guidance, mentoring and supervision of local implementing partners; - Submit
monthly and quarterly reports.
- The
applicant should hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field; - The
applicants should have at least five to ten years of experience (depending
on the specific positions), preferably in implementing donor-funded
programmes in water and sanitation; - Significant
experience in working with District Local Government and local civil
society organisations; - Proven
experience working cooperatively with a variety of local stakeholders,
other projects and international agencies; - Fluency
in English (written and oral). - Proficiency
in Ugandan local language(s) an added value; - Preferably
experience in working with gender-specific and youth-relevant
interventions.
