(AfrII) has received funding from the Conservation International USA for the
implementation of the Vital Signs Project in Uganda.
Job Summary: The
Socioeconomic Technicians/Enumerators will primarily gather socioeconomic data
from households by doing interviews and taking farm soil samples and crop yield
samples from households within specified locations in-country. The enumerators
will gather information regarding household characteristics, agricultural management
practice, crop productivity and various aspects of poverty and development, and
occasionally help the biophysical team in data collection.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Contact
    individuals to be interviewed at home, place of business or field location
    by telephone or in person after conducting households sampling;
  • Explain
    survey objectives and procedures to interviewees, interpret survey
    questions, and conduct household surveys and farm measurements with the
    sampled households;
  • Intuitively
    review, compile, record, and code collected data from interviews or survey
    books to tablets before transmitting the data into Vital Signs server
    after the approval by supervisor;
  • Responsible
    for developing and submitting weekly plans and reports, and discuss with
    supervisor on regular basis about progress. Identify and report any
    challenge encountered when obtaining valid data to the supervisor;
  • Support
    the Biophysical team in data collection when socioeconomic surveys are
    completed within a landscape.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidates for the Socioeconomic Technicians/Enumerators (2 Data
    Collections Jobs) should hold Diplomas in Economics, Social Sciences,
    Development Studies, or related fields. A BSc degree in similar fields is
    preferred.
  • At
    least two years of experience in conducting fields and socioeconomic
    surveys
  • High
    degree of flexibility and ability to learn new skills
  • The
    applicants should be skilled in the use of tools like questionnaires, farm
    field mapping, anthropometric measurements and GPS
  • Possess
    interpersonal skills to maintain cooperation with the field team
  • Ability
    to work under pressure with minimal supervision
  • Ability
    to work outside normal business hours and spending a lot of time in remote
    areas as may be required in the field
  • Ability
    to travel long distances to access study points with equipment and samples
