About ACDI/VOCA:
ACDI/VOCA is carrying out the
USAID-funded PL 480 Title II Development Food Assistance Program entitled
“Resiliency through Wealth, Agriculture, and Nutrition in Karamoja
(RWANU)”. The RWANU Program is focusing on reducing food insecurity among
vulnerable rural populations in selected sub-counties of Amudat, Moroto, Napak
and Nakapiripirit. The Program’s strategic objectives are (1) improved
availability and access to food and (2) reduced malnutrition in pregnant and
lactating mothers and children under five. The RWANU Program takes a preventive
approach to reducing malnutrition, focusing on the first 1,000 days of life
when conditional food rations will have the highest impact. RWANU will promote
diversified livelihoods strategies including linkages to market opportunities
to ensure long-term food security and resilience to food insecurity shocks.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Develop
    a conflict mitigation strategy for RWANU, identifying benchmarks for
    achievement of goals, success stories and ensure high quality performance
    in the area of conflict mitigation.
  • Guarantee
    collaboration, significant contact and interaction between RWANU program
    partners, local government agencies, other civil society groups working in
    peace building and conflict resolution.
  • Develop
    detailed program work plans, including activity descriptions and
    timetables and manage the implementation of these activities so as to
    ensure the program’s activities and outputs are executed on time and to
    adequate quality standards.’
  • Serve
    as RWANU’s liaison officer with other organizations that have peace
    building related interventions for purposes of sharing best practices and
    approaches
  • Conduct
    follow-ups through field visits and mentor Field extension staff in areas
    of reporting conflict mitigation advocacy, communication, building
    coalitions and networks.
  • Promote
    good relations between RWANU staff and beneficiaries.
  • Actively
    participate in setting program specific targets in line with overall
    strategic objectives of the program, participate actively in contributing
    to documentation of “success stories” on the interventions and enhance the
    overall quality of performance.
  • Develop
    peace building training manuals for the organization and prepare monthly,
    quarterly and annual peace building narrative reports
  • Support
    RWANU in identifying strategic opportunities for mainstreaming peace
    building in program activities
  • Assist
    communities identify their priorities, opportunities and resources for
    effective Peace Building project implementation
  • Actively
    facilitate communities to fully participate in project activities for
    enhanced community ownership and sustainability of Peace Building program
    through follow ups.
  • Facilitate
    awareness creation and sensitization of beneficiary groups in Peace
    Building and conflict mitigation
  • Perform
    any other task as required by the Livelihoods Director and or the Gender
    Specialist/Cross Cutting Coordinator
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Peace and Conflict
    Studies or equivalent.
  • A
    minimum of five years professional experience in peace building and
    conflict mitigation and preferably in hard to reach areas like Karamoja
  • Akarimojong
    language is essential
  • Fluent
    written and spoken English language skills
  • Computer
    literacy skills with a good command of word processing and spreadsheets
  • Good
    communication, interpersonal and reporting skills
  • Demonstrable
    ability to delegate and work with a team
  • Ability
    to work with minimum supervision
