International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the leading
inter-governmental organization on migration and works closely with
governmental, inter-governmental and non-governmental partners to promote
humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing
migration management services and assistance to governments and migrants,
including refugees and displaced persons. With 132 member states, a further 17
states holding observer status and offices in over 100 countries, IOM operates
in more than 460 field locations globally.
Kampala in 1988, at the same time that Uganda became a member state to IOM, and
currently has field presence in Moroto, Kyangwali, Lobule and Adjumani. IOM is
establishing its presence in the refugee settlements in Nakivale, Kyangwali and
Kyaka II.

From discrete ad hoc rescue operations of extremely vulnerable individuals to
massive evacuations of populations at risk, IOM resettlement operations

and are concrete examples of IOM’s professional operational excellence.
- Drive
IOM office vehicle(s) in a manner which fully adheres to the laws of
Uganda, which provides safety and security to IOM staff, is considerate to
other road users and which preserves the condition of the vehicle. - Make
sure that there is absolute adherence to IOM’s rules and regulations in
respect to the use of vehicles including informing management of any
unauthorized use of the vehicles, theft or misuse of fuel, theft of car
parts or other items kept in the car. - Manage
the day-to-day maintenance of the vehicle to ensure roadworthiness of
the vehicles. This includes daily
check of tyres, brakes, engine oil, fan belt etc. - Support
with minor repairs and ensure that the vehicles are kept clean. - Ensure
that the vehicles undertake regular service intervals. - Ensure
the vehicles always have full tank prior to departure for field trips. - Find
the most direct routing over the best available roads to the destinations.
- Ensure
that the IOM vehicle(s) is used only for official/authorised business,
reporting any abuse of the vehicle by other IOM staff members (or other
person) to the supervisor AND to the Chief of Mission - Ensure
daily cleaning of IOM vehicle(s) of both exterior and interior. - Obligatory
filling of the vehicle log sheet each day. - Maintain
a high degree of confidentiality regarding discussion overheard while in
the vehicle or when undertaking confidential tasks allocated by a relevant
authority - Collect
and deliver mail / documents as assigned by relevant authority. - Observe
traffic rules and regulations as well as IOM’s regulations in case of
involvement of in a traffic accident. - Perform
any other duties as assigned by a relevant authority.
- The
ideal candidate for the IOM vacancy should have completed a high school
diploma - At
least two years’ driving experience and a valid driving permit. - Mechanical
knowledge is an added advantage
Fluency in local languages is
advantageous
