About RUFORUM:
The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), established in 2004, is a consortium of 42 universities in 19 countries of Eastern, Central and Southern Africa (ECSA). The organisation evolved from the Forum on Agricultural Resource Husbandry (FORUM) program of the Rockefeller Foundation. RUFORUM is registered as an International Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) and has mandate to oversee graduate training and networks of specialization in the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). RUFORUM has an MoU with the African Union for strengthening science, technology and innovation capacity in Africa.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review all accounting and internal control systems and procedures on financial transactions or Procurement and disposal and advise on improvements that may be required.
- Intuitively verify all financial transactions for compliance to existing policy, regulations, procedures and other requirements including appropriate authorization.
- Evaluate financial and operational risk areas and mitigating measure to address them.
- Review and advise on financial operating processes and reporting formats to limit risks and ensure that financial management information is reliable, secure and complete.
- Actively coordinate the external audit of the RUFORUM’s books of accounts.
- Carry out internal special audits or financial investigations as may be directed by management or the Board.
- Analyses and prepares reports on risk management and proposals for improving organizational financial performance for consideration by management or the Finance, Audit and Human Resource Committee.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should possess a good bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration (finance or accounting option), Public Administration or Management.
- Professional certification by a recognized internal audit professional body like the Institute of Internal Audit or Institute of Internal Auditors Uganda.
- Three or more years’ experience in public/NGO or private sector with knowledge of donor supported programs
- Computer literacy i.e. ability to use financial and accounting software applications.
- Should be a team player.
- Ability to prepare accurate and quality internal audit reports according to prescribed reporting formats.
- Ability to focus on quality of financial delivery systems.
- Ability to effectively communicate financial information.
- Good working knowledge of accounting systems implementation.
- Ability to apply process analysis, business intelligence and problem solving techniques.
