About NRC:
The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian
organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more
dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for
the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter,
education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water, sanitation and
hygiene sectors.
Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been present in Somalia since early
2004 and has since expanded its Horn of Africa Programme to Kenya in 2006 and
later to Ethiopia, Yemen, Djibouti, Eritrea and incorporated Uganda. The
Regional Office is based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been implementing projects for
internally displaced people and Refugees in Northern Uganda and West Nile
respectively, since 1987. Having smoothly phased-out these projects, NRC is
currently making all the necessary preparations to begin new interventions in
Education and Food Security to address the needs and rights of refugees in West
Nile, mainly in Adjumani and Arua districts. 
NRC has established its office in Adjumani/Parkelle to support its
project activities and liaise with Government, UN and implementing partners
operating in Adjumani and Arua refugee settlements.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Actively coordinate the Education project
    activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets and plans
  • Ensure compliance and adherence to NRC
    policies and donor requirements
  • Actively participate and inform
    communities and community leaders about the activities
    Break down the annual operational plans into weekly, monthly and quarterly
    implementation plans
  • Coordinate with relevant partners
  • Ensure that procurement, development and
    distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to
    procedures
  • Mentor, supervise and develop team
  • Compile periodic progress reports and
    other documents as required
  • Investigate and facilitate introduction of
    new technology, methods and approaches in order to improve the quality of
    the activities
  • Supervise and inspect the ALP teachers and
    Head teachers regularly with specific focus on quality and professionalism
  • Identify training needs of ALP teachers
    and suggest for relevant trainings to meet the needs.
  • Organize and conduct regular meetings with
    ALP school/center management committees in view of improving the ALP
    activities
  • Organize and conduct refresher trainings
    for ALP school/ Centre Management Committees if necessary.
  • Compile and submit monthly ALP activity
    reports.
  • Work closely and coordinate with relevant
    authorities and communities at field level.
  • Identify and register learners for the ALP
    programme.
  • Update the learners’ and teachers’ data
    base.
  • Identify and coordinate ALP school/centre
    logistical needs.
  • Work with the School Management Committee
    (SMC) during follow up of learners and in mobilizing local resources to
    facilitate teaching.
  • Perform regular community sensitization
    meetings on ALP programme.
  • Guide, supervise and appraise project
    Assistants under ALP.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The applicant should hold a good
    Bachelor’s degree in Education/Social Sciences/Development studies
  • Three or more years’ experience from
    working as a Education Project Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in
    refugee contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s
    responsibilities
  • Knowledge about own leadership
    skills/profile
  • Fluency in both written and verbal English
  • Knowledge of the local language Arabic is
    an added advantage
  • Experience with start-up, exit or similar
  • Ability to ride motorcycle
