The Makerere University – Johns
Hopkins University Research Collaboration was founded by clinical researchers
interested in finding ways to prevent HIV infection in children and dedicated
to improving the health of women, children, and families who are infected and
affected by HIV/AIDS. The collaboration started by scientists and clinicians
from the US and Uganda has flourished dramatically into a diverse community of
talented clinical investigators, scientific researchers and participants. MUJHU
Care is currently implementing a project funded by the Center for Disease
Control and Prevention Atlanta.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively
take part in the planning process of the Birth Defect (BD) surveillance
program. - Ensure
the effective implementation of the program. - Develop
and maintain the program’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). - Develop
the training materials for the program’s protocol, SOPs and data
collection tools. - Steer,
motivate and develop the program’s team. - Oversee
the communication process between the program stakeholders and
participating sites. - Carry
out monitoring and evaluation exercises for the program’s site activities. - Ensure
the quality of the program’s data. - Compile,
prepare and present program periodic reports to funders, the core team,
participating sites, and the stakeholders’ committee.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The
applicant should possess a University Degree in Medicine (MBChB) and a
Masters Degree in either Epidemiology or Public Health from a recognized
Institution. - At
least five years’ work experience in a busy health institution of which 2
years’ are in a supervisory role managing a health based research program. - Past
exposure and experience in surveillance programs is an added advantage. - Ability
to work with and through teams to deliver results. - Ability
to pursue high standards of excellence in line with the program protocols
and SOPs. - Ability
to accomplish tasks with the required attention to detail and accuracy. - Ability
to work under minimum supervision. - Ability
to identify and provide training and development interventions that enable
others to reach their full potential. - Excellent
oral and written communication in English. - Computer
literacy i.e. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
