7 Principal Assistant Engineering Officer (Mechanical) Career Positions – Public Service Commission

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Responsible
    for guiding government departments on specifications for vehicles and
    machinery for procurement and assist in evaluation of bids;
  • Testing
    and evaluate new models of vehicles for government use;
  • Inspecting
    and assess the private garages/workshops that repair government vehicles,
    equipment, etc;
  • Assisting
    transport officers of government departments in coming        out with an impeccable system
    through which their vehicles/equipments would be repaired/maintained in
    the private garages/workshops;
  • Inspecting
    and evaluate vehicles and machinery for procurement by government;
  • Performing
    competence test for drivers of government vehicles;
  • Inspecting
    and evaluate vehicles and machinery for the public for tax assessment or
    arbitration purposes;
  • Inspecting
    and analyse newly fabricated motorable/towable road units for safety and
    conformity to standards for onward registration and usage;
  • Evaluating
    vehicles/equipment for compensation purposes;
  • Supervising
    and ensure correct techniques of executing the works;
  • Ensuring
    occupational safety and health regulations are observed;
  • Supporting
    the Principal Executive Engineer in generating the sub-division reports;
  • Perform
    any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The Principal Assistant Engineering
    Officer (Mechanical) should be Ugandans holding an Ordinary Technical
    Diploma and a Higher Technical Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a
    recognised University or Institution.
  • The applicants should have at least six
    (6) years working experience three (3) of which should have been at the
    level of a Senior Assistant Engineering Officer in Government or
    equivalent level of experience from a reputable Organisation.
  • Applicants should have the following
    competencies: Good interpersonal and communication skills, concern for
    quality and standards and knowledge of procurement, disposal and contract
    management with a policy management strategic thinking and computer
    skills. 
Age: Between 25 years and above

Kampala, Ministry/Department Headquarters and District Service Commission

  • Application forms should bear the title of
    the post followed by the Reference Number specified against the vacancy.
    The appropriate Advert Title e.g. “PSC Internal Advert. No. 2/2014”
    should be indicated in capital letters on the top of each first page of
    the Public Service Form No. 3 (2008). Applicants should attach three sets
    of photocopies of their certificates and testimonials. Applicants
    subsequently shortlisted for oral interviews shall be required to present
    certified copies and originals of their academic transcripts and
    certificates at the time of sitting the Oral Interviews.
  • Applicants should attach three (3) recent
    certified passport size photographs and should apply for a maximum of only
    two (2) posts clearly indicating the first and second choice on the
    application.
