About RSCE:
The Regional Service Centre Steering Committee is the decision-making body for RSCE, in compliance with General Assembly resolutions, United Nations Secretariat rules and regulations, strategic guidance from United Nations Headquarters and oversight bodies. The Steering Committee consults with the Global Field Support Strategy Implementation Coordination Team, as required.
The Regional Service Centre, as approved by the Member States, is owned, managed and staffed by the regional missions it serves. This framework reinforces the existing missions’ chain of command structures and lines of authority in a manner that does not create an additional layer between Headquarters and the regional missions. It also ensures that staffing for RSCE will be achieved through the redeployment of resources from the regional missions it serves.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direction and supervision of the MTO/OIC Dispatch, the driver will perform the following tasks:
- Operate all categories of vehicles including Flatbed cargo truck up to 16 ton (Kerax PLS trucks), within and outside the mission area as instructed by MTO/OIC Dispatch.
- Responsible for the daily inspection of the UN vehicle (prior to start and after start) all oil level, water and coolant levels, etc.
- Keep the UN vehicle in good condition, cleaned up in the exterior and in the interior.
- Daily staff transportation driving buses with up to 30 seat capacity Ad-hoc transportation duties as assigned by MTO/OIC Dispatch such as driving delegations and VIPs, assistance to non-MONUSCO entities if approved by administration and tasked through the MTO.
- Driving in a professional and safe manner any vehicle he/she operates adhering to MONUSCO rules and regulations governing the use of vehicles and applying defensive driving techniques.
- Quickly reporting any damage resulting from an incident or accident to the Security and TPT-DDR Unit within 24 hours and following the established process.
- Ensure that passengers and cargo are entitled under MONUSCO rules and regulations to travel in the MONUSCO vehicle
- Ensure that the vehicle’s maintenance schedule is adhered to and that vehicle is in proper operation condition. Report immediately any mechanical malfunction in the vehicle to the workshop.
- Ensure that the vehicle is kept in a clean safe condition by daily cleaning of the interior and exterior of the vehicle(s) given in his/her care.
- Responsible for both the security of the UN Vehicle he operates passengers and its load.
- Perform any other duties as required in Transport Dispatch Unit.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The candidates for the United Nations Driver jobs should have completed High school with diplomas or equivalent.
- Attained formal driver training, hold a valid national driving licence including class B C, D and E (heavy trucks and buses) license
- Technical training as Motor Vehicle Technician (National Technician Certificate or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Three or more years of truck driving or bus driving experience is required
Language Proficiency; English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Fluency in oral and written French is an added advantage.
