and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced
populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food
security, legal assistance, and water, sanitation and hygiene sectors.
Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC)
has been present in Somalia since early 2004 and has since expanded its Horn of
Africa Programme to Kenya in 2006 and later to Ethiopia, Yemen, Djibouti,
Eritrea and incorporated Uganda. The Regional Office is based in Nairobi,
Kenya.
Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC)
has been implementing projects for internally displaced people and Refugees in
Northern Uganda and West Nile respectively, since 1987. Having smoothly
phased-out these projects, NRC is currently making all the necessary
preparations to begin new interventions in Education and Food Security to
address the needs and rights of refugees in West Nile, mainly in Adjumani and
Arua districts.  NRC has established its
office in Adjumani/Parkelle to support its project activities and liaise with
Government, UN and implementing partners operating in Adjumani and Arua refugee
settlements.
Job Summary: The
Education Project Assistants will be responsible for field level implementation
of Education activities in the refugee camps in West Nile. 
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Actively
    monitor and report on the project activities and ensure compliance with
    plans and NRC standards
  • Work
    closely with the community education committees in the planning and
    enrollment of the activities
  • Distribute
    and monitor the use of school materials according to procedures
  • Administrate
    teachers’ and school children’s payments and entitlements
  • Assist
    the teachers in their work
  • Suggest
    new methods and approaches in order to improve the quality of the
    activities
  • Report
    all protection related concerns
  • Carry
    out data collection as required
  • Compile
    and send field reports
  • Prepare
    and file relevant documents as required by line manager
  • Responsible
    for community mobilization/sensitization on ALP and other related
    activities.
  • Offer
    on-site support supervision and feedback to ALP teachers and Head
    teachers.
  • Ensure
    community participation, contribution and ownership in the ALP program.
  • Carry
    home visits to ALP learners and take part in discussing issues that affect
    the child as a mentoring process.
  • Work
    closely with community leaders to ensure that out of school children
    benefit from ALP activities.
  • Identify
    community concerns that hinder the enrolment of children in ALP, retention
    and completion and recommend measures to address them.
  • Prepare
    weekly and monthly reports on activities within each ALP school with
    relevant data
  • Inspect
    and supervise regularly all the ALP centers/schools.
  • Ensure
    a constructive co-operation with local authorities and host schools in
    implementing ALP activities.
  • Support
    in the identification and registration of ALP learners (database)
  • Assist
    in updating ALP learners’ and teachers’ data base.
  • Take
    part in relevant meetings e.g. child protection meetings.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    candidates should hold a Diploma in Education/Social Sciences/Development
    studies
  • Three
    or more years’ experience from working as field Assistant in a
    humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous
    experience from working in busy contexts
  • Documented
    results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Good
    working knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency
    in English, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge
    of the local language Arabic is an added advantage
  • Past
    experience with start-up, exit or similar
  • Ability
    to ride motorcycle
