Officer provides strategic and technical support to Plan’s communication work
in Uganda. S/he ensures that Country communication activities support Plan
Uganda Country Strategic Plan, regional and global communication priorities and
campaigns and effectively support Plan’s programme goals.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate development of programme
publications, including planning, budgeting, design, editing and printing. - Maintain programme resource centre for
printed publications and reports (including online) and quickly respond to information
requests. - Disseminate programme publications and
reports internally and externally, including websites, intranet, in workshops and maintain contact list for external
dissemination - Support programme team by collecting
success stories, reviewing and approving documents basing on Plan International global brand guidelines - Designing, coordination of production and
distribution process of IEC materials. - Coordination and supporting internal
communication processes and systems including monthly Team briefing sessions, bulletins, and quarterly newsletter. - Support web management including social
media, website and U-Tube functions - Responsible for the coordination of local
and international media activities to profile Plan Uganda’s work
Experience:
- The Communications Officer must possess a
Bachelor degree in Mass Communication or its equivalent; A post graduate qualification
in development studies or social sciences will be an added advantage; - A minimum of three or more years’
experience in programme communications and coordination of development of publications,
including planning, editing, design and printing - Computer skills and hands –on knowledge
and experience of software for design and dissemination of publications
(MSOffice, In design, Acrobat, Internet, web) - Demonstrated experience of working in a
communication position in a large organisation and preferably in an NGO. - Good understanding and knowledge of
current communication issues, media trends, and child rights and
development issues. - Organised and able to multi-task and
manage multiple priorities within short deadlines - Skills in organising and maintaining
information resources and publications - Excellent interpersonal skills, team player,
proactive and able to multitask and manage multiple priorities and meet
strict deadlines. - Fluency in English and very good working
knowledge of local languages spoken in Uganda - Excellent written and oral communication
skills, including presentation, public speaking, online and social media
