About UWEC:
Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) formerly known as Entebbe Zoo is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage. The Uganda Wildlife Education Center is a fun and exciting place to see and learn about the animals of Uganda and the ecosystems in which they live. Originally founded in the 1950s to accommodate confiscated and injured wildlife and to look after orphan animals which have been taken away from smugglers it has grown considerably in recent years. Many say its destined to become the most important showcase for wildlife on the African continent.
Job Summary: The Internal Auditor will primarily examine and evaluate the adequacy, effectiveness and efficiency of the organization’s internal control systems and procedures and recommend corrective actions to improve operations, enhance internal controls and reduce costs where possible.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Periodically review and maintain a charter for Internal Audit Function in accordance with Internal Audit professional practice.
  • Develop risk–based annual audit plans detailing the scope, nature and timing of audit activities.
  • Render support in the development of internal controls and an internal control culture, including orientation and training to staff.
  • Assess the Centre’s compliance with laws, regulations, procedures, policies and other requirements and advise the Centre accordingly.
  • Identify key areas of risk within the organization and propose appropriate controls to mitigate the risks through preparation of an annual audit plan.
  • Review the accuracy, timeliness and relevance of financial information and other disclosures provided to management.
  • Discuss audit findings and recommendations with top management and report significant issues to the Audit committee.
  • Compile and prepare timely audit reports in line with the approved audit plan on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Monitor the timely implementation of the management actions recommended in the audit reports and report them adequately.
  • Carry out ad-hoc investigations and reviews as requested by top management or the Audit Committee.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The candidate should hold a good Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration from a recognized University
  • Internationally recognized accounting or auditing certification, such as CPA, CIA etc. (desirable)
  • Computer literacy skills i.e. Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, advanced Excel) A minimum of three or more years’ experience in an Internal Audit or internal control function in a Government, Donor funded project, reputable non for profit revenue generating conservation organization including exposure to PPDA regulations.
  • Expertise in the functioning of a Government / Donor funded, non for profit revenue generating conservation organization
  • Highly knowledgeable in audit software.
