Expanded Adult Male Medical Circumcision

Diseases Institute (IDI) is to strengthen health systems in Africa with strong
emphasis on infectious diseases through research and capacity development. IDI
has five operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission:
prevention, care and treatment; training; research, Outreach; and laboratory
services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University-John
Hopkins University Core Lab).
Institute (IDI) offers free Safe Male Circumcision (SMC) services in Uganda as
part of a comprehensive HIV prevention package for adult men since April 2011.
Through an initiative, branded “E AMAKA – Expanded Adult Male Medical
Circumcision”, services have been scaled up in the districts of; Kampala,
Hoima, Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, Kiryandongo, Buliisa, Masindi and Kibaale.
will be responsible for providing the clients relevant information about SMC.
He/ she will perform counseling sessions ensuring high level confidentiality
without discrimination and treat each client with dignity and respect.
- Provides
a full range of counseling services to MMC clients - Identify
client’s problems and document pertinent information - Assist
clients in formulating plans for addressing problem areas - Refers
clients for further counseling to other social support institutions as
required - Actively
participates as a full member of the circumcision interdisciplinary team. - Assist
other circumcision related activities as required
- The
candidate should hold a diploma or degree in a health related counseling field - At
least two years’ work experience preferably in a circumcision surgical
setting - Completion
of a recognized course in a counseling with a specialty in counseling
services for persons living with HIV/AIDS - Training
and experience in the provision of male circumcision counseling services
will be an added advantage
