Change Communication Officer
Uganda. The project aims to increase the coverage and use of key life-saving
malaria interventions in support of the National Malaria Control Strategy in
order to significantly reduce the malaria morbidity and mortality in Uganda.
The project will be implemented in 26 districts in Central and Hoima regions
over a period of 9 months starting in July 2014. SMP offers a partnership
uniquely positioned to deliver this implementation rollout. Partners include
the Center for Communication Programs (CCP) of the Johns Hopkins University
Bloomberg School of Public Health (the leading agency) and Malaria Consortium.
will steer behavior change communication activities at health facility and
community levels in the 26 SMP supported districts in Central and Hoima
regions.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with implementing the following BCC
activities:
Responsible for the promotion of communication
messages for LLIN distribution, net use, care and repair and messages for
malaria testing before treatment
Organize Health Provider Trainings in Inter
Personal Communication for Test and treat Campaign and Intermittent presumptive
treatment (IPTp)
Carry out Continuous Medical Education sessions
at participating health Facilities for test ad treat campaign and track
promotion.
Participate in the development of Intermittent
Presumptive Treatment job aids
Get involved in BCC Technical Working Group
meetings at the Ministry of Health.
Technically support VHTs to conduct and report
on Community mobilization activities for IPTp and LLIN usage, care and repair.
Assist with the planning/ organizing of SMP quarterly
meetings with the district.
Support project close out documentation and
planning for Project closeout event
Perform any other additional duties as assigned
by the supervisor
Experience:
- The applicant for the USAID / PMI Project
should hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in communication, social
sciences or a health related field; - Detailed working knowledge and
understanding of both preventive and curative aspects of malaria BCC
activities in Uganda; - A minimum of four years’ experience of
working with National and district health systems in Uganda; - Past exposure and experience of working in
communicable disease control, preferably malaria control; - Familiarity with the strategies and
guidelines of the Uganda National Malaria Control Program; - Proven experience in training of trainers
and health supervisors. - Fluency in English – both written and
spoken. - Familiarity with Luganda is an added
advantage;
