to prevent violent conflict and build safer lives. We work with civil society,
governments and international organisations to encourage and support effective
policies and practices through advocacy, research and policy development, and
through supporting the actions of others. We have a strong thematic focus to
our conflict prevention work prioritising: access to security and justice
services; arms controls; aid and conflict; and governance and peacebuilding. We
contribute to lasting change in specific countries and regions and
internationally through a combination of research and policy development,
advocacy and through supporting practical action at the local level in
conflict-affected societies. We currently have country and regional programmes
in Central and South Asia, the Caucasus, Eastern Europe, the Horn and Great
Lakes regions of Africa and the Middle East and North Africa.
Funding Coordinator will support the Great Lakes and S/Sudan regional
programme, to increase our capacity to manage growth in the region. Most of our
funding comes from governments and multilateral donors so we are looking for
someone who can coordinate these institutional grants, as well as bring
fundraising skills to the programme. The Fundraising Coordinator will technically
support the implementation of Saferworld’s regional and organisational funding
strategy. The incumbent holder will assist in the identification of funding
opportunities, support programme teams to submit successful funding proposals,
and coordinate donor relationships and reporting requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee
the reporting process on a portfolio of grants relating to regional
programmes, including from the Governments of the Netherlands,
Sweden, United Kingdom, United States and other institutional donors - Manage
donor relations for existing and new grants, including negotiating grant
contracts as required - Ensure
the Finance Department has all relevant information to provide
accurate financial reports once a new contract has been agreed and that
programme teams have built reporting deadlines into their work plans - Technically
support programme teams and work with the Finance Department to prepare
timely and accurate narrative and financial reports in line with
contractual requirements - Ensure
the funding database is kept up to date and all records of contracts and
reports are accessible - Work
closely with relevant teams to set up systems for effective fundraising
and grant management
- Work
closely with programme teams to identify funding needs and opportunities,
and coordinate applications that support the delivery of Saferworld’s
strategic plan - Research
the priorities of new and existing donors and keep up-to-date with funding
opportunities in grant-giving organisations, including the European
Commission, governments, and trusts and foundations - Ensure
programme staff are aware of funding opportunities and deadlines - Work
with colleagues across the organisation to coordinate the preparation of
high quality funding proposals, including logical frameworks and budgets
as required, ensuring that donor requirements and guidelines are
understood and met - Stay
up-to-date with new fundraising developments through internal networking
and in the sector, attending events and reading relevant donor reports - Maintain
an accurate database of current and prospective donors, funding
applications and their outcomes
- Technically
support the effective monitoring and evaluation of grants - Significantly
contribute to the organisational process for effective monitoring,
evaluation, and learning - Develop
skills and understanding of programme staff on fundraising skills,
as required - Communications
- Work
closely with the Communications Team to raise awareness of our work among
key donors (and ensure fundraising information is kept up to date on the
website)
Experience:
- The applicant should hold a Good Bachelor’s degree
- A
minimum of three years’ experience in fundraising and grant
management experience and proven track record of success; - Excellent
writing skills with the ability to produce concise and relevant proposals
and reports - High
standard of computer literacy (Excel, Word, Outlook); - Meticulous
attention to detail; - Ability
to plan and work within agreed timeframes; - Ability
to demonstrate initiative and work well under pressure; - Possess
the ability to understand and generate budgets; - Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work with
staff based in different countries and time zones;
