About UTB:
The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) is a statutory organization established
by the Tourism Act, 2008. The objectives of UTB are to promote and contribute
to the development of the tourism sector both within and outside Uganda; to
coordinate with the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities and the
private sector in the implementation of the national tourism policy and to such
activities as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above
objectives.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Developing and implementing UTB’s PR and
    Corporate Communications Strategy, policies, budget; and annual work plan.
  • Ensuring that Public Relations and
    Corporate Communications is effectively used to support the business
    objectives of UTB.
  • Overseeing the flow of information between
    and among UTB stakeholders.
  • Coordinating Public Relations programmes
    in the markets in liaisort – with the Marketing Manager and Product
    Development Manager.
  • Educating and enhancing the importance and
    awareness of Uganda’s tourism products to the public locally and
    internationally.
  • Coordinating ail UTB corporate social
    responsibility programmes, corporate sponsorship, corporate advertising
    and corporate events.
  • Management of the Tourism Uganda online
    portal and social media.
  • Actively coordinate the development,
    design, writing, production, proofreading, layout, formatting and editing
    of communication materials; and responsibility for photography/video.
  • Maintain an up-to date program website and
    portal with current information, publications, news stories and success
    stories.
  • Handle publicity and media relations.
  • Mentoring, coaching and providing
    leadership to the Public Relations and Corporate Communications team. 
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:  
  • The candidate should hold a Bachelor’s degree
    e.g. Mass Communication, Journalism, etc. or equivalent.
  • Post-Graduate Qualification in Public
    Relations, Media, Communications or in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in
    public relations position with three years in a senior management and
    supervisory role in a large organization.
  • Advanced computer skills with ability to
    work with Desktop Publishing software like Adobe CS applications
    Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark Express, In-Design and presentation
    applications.
  • Specific experience in layout, editing and
    formatting of reports, manuals.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management
    of online information portals and social media platforms.
  • Membership to a professional public
    relations body e.g. Public Relations Association of Uganda and any other
    equivalent and recognized relevant professional body.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication
    skills both written and verbal.
  • Team player with strong leadership and
    management skills; and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Hands on mentality, flexible, proactive
    and creative.
