Development Officer
by the Tourism Act, 2008. The objectives of UTB are to promote and contribute
to the development of the tourism sector both within and outside Uganda; to
coordinate with the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities and the
private sector in the implementation of the national tourism policy and to such
activities as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out market research to obtain
information required to establish uniqueness, demand, viability,
feasibility, marketability and information associated with potential
products i.e. Conducts marketing analysis to develop product definitions. - Constitute in consultation with senior
management, all product development committees and ensures that such
committees meet regularly as and when required. - Work closely with tourism partners in the
development and production of appropriate products and services. - Organize site visits for product
committees in the design of product trails or circuits. - Manage the construction of monuments
and/or the development of sites associated with products preferably using
a Public-Private- Partnership [PPP] Approach. - Organize training of communities around
sites to benefit from tourism through Tour Guiding or making souvenirs or
packaging experiences to be included in product itineraries. - Coordinate the development of products and
service offerings including packages, events and attractions. - Organize launch events for the developed
products in their key target markets. - Carry out research to evaluate product
performance, and to update product information. - Actively participate in overall product strategy,
design, research and development requirements, development, and
coordination for new and emerging products. - Significantly coordinate product
development, estimates of potential profits, and release to production. - Work in liaison with Public Relations,
Communications and Marketing to maintain adequate communication
information and materials for the developed products. - Perform any other related duties that may
be assigned from time to time.
Experience:
- The applicant should possess at least five
years’ experience in product development with a profit orientated
hospitality industry. - Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism,
Marketing, Business Development or any relevant field. - Computer literacy skills
- Excellent organizational and planning.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal
skills. - Proven ability to work under limited
supervision. - Knowledge of Uganda’s current and
potential tourism Offer. - Detailed knowledge of Uganda’s tourism and
hospitality industry and excellent contacts and networking capabilities
within the local and international sector. - Good working knowledge of current affairs,
political, social and business issues that relate to and affect tourism
and the travel trade
