investor in the emerging markets, managing over US$4.8bn worth of investment on
behalf of more than 100 institutional investors, including the Commonwealth
Development Corporation (CDC), a UK Government owned company..     Umeme operates under a concession with a
structural monopoly in the distribution of electricity across Uganda,
distributing 99% of electricity in Uganda through a single buyer model.
Job Summary: The
Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for the implementation of Maintenance
Plans with the highest level of safety, quality and cost efficiency in line
with Umeme’s Annual Operating Plan (AOP). Embrace preventive and predictive
maintenance practices.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Develop and implement preventive
    maintenance plans in line with agreed time lines and cost
  • Deliver Safety and Loss Reduction targets
    for the District
  • Ensure staff compliance and adherence to
    standards regarding maintenance and operation of the distribution network
  • In charge of scheduling of maintenance
    works and resources on a day to day basis.
  • Responsible for carrying out quality
    checks and audits of all jobs performed.
  • Develop work methods and definition of
    procedure for job efficiency.
  • Develop maintenance budget and performance
    tracking and monitoring.
  • Manage teams, define objectives and
    missions, promote quality of work, motivate personnel and encourage
    interdependencies.
  • Create a culture of proactive maintenance
    within the District
  • Technically support effective
    implementation of new Umeme technology and processes
  • Work closely with other departments,
    particularly Operations, to identify and resolve problems impacting
    service to customers
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The applicant should hold ideally be an
    Electrical Engineer
  • At least three years’ experience or
    superior technician in Electrical Engineering with at least 5 years post
    qualification experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of maintenance
    operations with Leadership Capacity.
