About ADC:
Africa Development Corps (ADC), formerly known as Visions in Action, is
an international NGO based out of Washington DC, working in relief and
development throughout Africa. Over the past 23 years we have been involved in
the implementation of a wide range of humanitarian activities in countries such
as Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa and Liberia. In particular, ADC has
implemented development and relief programs in the areas of HIV/AIDS,
education, youth development and food security.
ADC is about to undertake a peace building education programme for both
refugee and host communities in two refugee camps in the Western Nile region of
Uganda. The program aims to increase access to quality, relevant peace building
education for both refugee and host communities.
Job Summary: The Field Assistant must work closely with all
program staff and provide the Field Officer with monthly progress reports on
the implemented activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Build and maintain working relationships
    with refugee and host communities.
  • Implement advocacy and awareness events
    and campaigns.
  • Implement large scale academic and
    recreational events.
  • Maintain a constant presence within
    refugee settlement areas where ADC is working.
  • Based on ADC programming, deliver weekly
    training sessions to various stakeholders within the refugee settlements.
  • Uphold the values of ADC at all times.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:  
  • The applicant must ideally hold a University
    Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Ideally, the candidate will have
    background in education and a good knowledge of Peace Building and
    Emergency Education strategies.
  • At least two to four years’ experience in
    nonprofit setting and/or international NGO setting essential.
  • Possess excellent English communication
    skills, both written and oral, and be willing to travel to challenging
    rural environments.
  • Strong time keeping skills.
  • Possess the ability to work to targets and
    tight deadlines.
  • Possess the ability to work without direct
    supervision to achieve the missions of ADC.
  • In addition to English, people speaking
    any of the following languages are especially encouraged to apply; Dinka, Nuer,
    Luo, Nyoro and Ma’di
