Manager
Training
brings American volunteer development workers to assist Uganda in capacity
building and technical assistance activities in Health, Education and Community
Economic Development. There are about 160 Volunteers assigned to non-government
organizations, government entities, clinics, colleges and schools. Peace Corps
also aims to build cultural understanding between Americans and
Ugandans. All positions require excellent command of English, both
spoken and written; native ability in spoken and written in at least one widely
spoken Ugandan language.
Training Manager will oversee the training unit to ensure systems and resources
are aligned smoothly for all training events to be conducted in line with Peace
Corps Uganda and Headquarters guidelines.
Supervision:
- Supervises and provides day to day
guidance to three fulltime training staff and over twenty temporary hire
contractors including staff performance appraisal, identifying staff
development needs in collaboration with the organizational learning
specialist and ensuring team cohesion and synergy within the training
unit. - Identifies staffing needs in the
training unit and as requested by the Director of Programming and
Training, participates in recruitment of full time and/or temporary hire
contractors for the training Unit.
Uganda training events:
- Manages the Volunteer training cycle
including Pre-service, In-service, Mid-service, Close of service and just
in time trainings for Volunteers and/or their Ugandan counterparts through
their service (typically two years) and ensures the administrative unit
has all the information required to avail logistical support in a timely
manner. - Draw budgets for all the Volunteer
training events and support the administrative unit to procure appropriate
venues and solicit specialist trainers for these trainings in a timely
manner. - As a member of senior staff,
participates in senior staff meetings and offers insight on training and
crosscutting strategic areas.
departments and partners:
- Obtains curricula and training content
from program and administrative staff and ensures timely availability of
the content to Volunteers for trainings. - Enables interdepartmental communication
flow to ensure all resources are in place and approved in a timely manner
to enable smooth training execution. - Conducts training staff meetings in
order to get information from each sector to be able to provide management
with regular input on Trainees’ performance and an overall assessment of
training. - Keeps Peace Corps Uganda management
aware of changing trends in training needs and advises on ways to
efficiently manage the training cycle. - Based upon guidance provided by Peace
Corps/Washington and in close collaboration with organizational learning
specialist, the Training Manager will maintain effective communication and
offer advice to the programming and training team on innovations and
changes in the Volunteer training.
- Acquires new training and learning
approaches from a variety of local and international development sources
and in close collaboration with the organizational learning specialist
shares them with staff through various fora for implementation under the
leadership and guidance of the Director of Programming and Training. - The position requires travel of
approximately 35% of the time. Most trainings are conducted in satellite
sites requiring overnight stay for extended periods of time.
- The applicant should hold a Master’s
Degree in any discipline preferably education and/or Management. - A minimum of four years’ experience in
progressively more complex roles in training and management, preferably
with an international, cross-cultural organization or business. - The applicant should have excellent
command of English, both spoken and written, ability to work independently
with little supervision, good organization and time management skills,
willingness to take initiative, teamwork skills, strong service attitude,
personal integrity, strong cross-cultural skills - Excellent interpersonal skills
- Exhibit a strong interest in Uganda’s
development and ability to travel extensively.
