system. WHO is responsible for providing leadership on global health
matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards,
articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to
countries and monitoring and assessing health trends.
the Operations Officer and Health Systems cluster Lead, and general guidance of
the WHO Representative, the successful candidate will perform the following
duties:
- Prepares correspondence for
the supervisor’s signature, ensuring that spelling, punctuation and format
are correct, checks enclosures, Attachments and addresses. - Arranges appointments for the
Life Course Team, receives visitors, places and screens telephone calls,
and responds to routine requests for information. - Makes travel arrangements for
the Life Course Team and other staff of Family and Reproductive
Health Area of work. - Intuitively monitors the
cluster budget by maintaining summary sheets of expenditure by Awards. - Takes minutes of the cluster
meeting as required. - Maintains filing system for the cluster on various subjects.
- The incumbent maintains and
updates proficiency in the use of modern office technology through
in-house courses, on-the-job training or self-training. - He/she keeps abreast of changes in procedures and practices,
rules and regulations, organizational structure, in the department, the
cluster and WHO, to be able to brief others and explain procedures. - Perform any other duties
assigned by the WHO Representative.
Experience:
- The ideal United Nations WHO
applicant should possess a Diploma or University Degree in Secretarial
Duties from a recognised Institution.
- A minimum of five years’ experience
as a professional Secretary. - Past experience with UN will
be an added advantage. - Excellent communication skills
i.e. ability to communicate in an incredible and effective way; - High results -orientation;
- Knowing and managing yourself;
Proficiency: Thorough knowledge of both
spoken and written English. Working
knowledge of French and Swahili would be added advantage.
