Job Summary The Energy
Manager will actively participate in the development and implementation of
projects under the WWF UCO Energy and Climate Programme.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promotes the 2050 Vision in the Energy
Report for Uganda (Based on the WWF International Energy Report) using it
as a basis for advocacy to enable the review and development of legal
instruments for low-carbon energy development in Uganda at all levels;
National, District, Local Government - Actively supports the development of UCO
Energy and Climate Programme - Implement WWF UCO’s energy projects
- Engage and lobby for the implementation of
energy and climate policies, laws and institutions by engaging government
and civil society actors in the country; - Integrates climate change adaptation
considerations in energy developments in WWF UCO priority areas; - Builds and maintains a good working
relationship and regularly liaise with partners especially Ministry of
Energy and Mineral Development and the Global Climate and Energy
Initiative in the implementation of the Climate and Energy programme. - Recommends climate change, sustainable use
and footprints reduction interventions in energy related developments e.g.
petroleum, hydropower, solar, geothermal and biomass energy among others,
to be considered in the different projects in the Energy and Climate
Programme; - Actively facilitates UCO’s efforts in
increasing access to basic energy services Uganda; - Supports the Energy and Climate Programme
Coordinator and Conservation Manager in capacity strengthening of UCO and
its partners on energy and climate issues; - Conducts research and development of
sustainability tools to promote improved environmental and social
performance of renewable energy development particularly for hydropower
and biofuels development (e.g. sustainability criteria,
upstream-downstream partnerships etc); - Gathers and documents knowledge and
lessons learnt on best practices in energy development from within and
outside the WWF Network and/or its partners, both local and international
and disseminate widely to UCO, and its partners and WWF network. - Initiates ideas on energy related issues
and write concepts for discussion and development into a project. - Work in liaison and collaborate with other
projects and programmes in UCO to build synergies in UCO conservation
efforts. - Participate in M&E of the Energy and
Climate Programme projects
Qualifications, Skills &
Experience:
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the WWF Energy
Manager opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Energy and Climate
studies, Development Studies, Engineering, Social Sciences, Environmental
and Natural Resource Management; - A minimum of five years’ professional
experience; - Past exposure and experience in energy development
is an added advantage; - Experience in civil society organizational
capacity development, lobbying, advocacy, natural resources management is
a must; - Fluency in English and at least one other
major language spoken (Swahili, Luo and/or Runyakitara) in the Albertine
Rift. - Highly developed conceptual, analytical
and innovative problem-solving ability; - Proven ability to handle complex process
and information integration issues; - Extensive theoretical background and
practical experience in organization development, civil society
engagement, communication, lobbying and advocacy. - Possess the ability to coordinate major
capacity building needs assessment, planning, development and
implementation of capacity building initiatives; - Ability to maintain effective working
relations both as a team member and team leader; - Ability to establish priorities and to
plan, coordinate and monitor own work plan and those under his/her
supervision. - Exceptional interpersonal skills and
ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people
in a multi-cultural, multi-interest, multi-ethnic environment; - Possess the capacity of assuming a leading
role, often in situations under pressure, in defining and implementing
projects with teams of individuals of different culture and background; - Excellent organization skills;
- Excellent oral and written communications
skills; - Must be detail-oriented and have the
ability to multi-task under limited supervision; - Adaptable, flexible, able to take
initiative and prioritize among competing demands; - Adheres to WWF’s values, which are:
