developing world. Axios engages with local stakeholders, opinion leaders,
government authorities and health facility management to assess and improve
local infrastructure, including hospitals and laboratories, and to manage
effective supply chain management systems and disease management programs. In
addition, the Foundation manages a number of international drug donation
programs.
USAID funded health project in Uganda (Systems Strengthening and Health
Commodities) to improve the health status of the Ugandan population by
increasing the availability, accessibility and appropriate use of essential
medicines and health supplies (EMHS).
This objective will be achieved through three main intermediate results:
1) National policies and strategies that support cost-effective, equitable and
transparent use of available EMHS resources; 2) Country capacity strengthened
for effective management and utilization of EMHS; and 3) Increased availability
and access to EMHS for priority populations.
Responsibilities:
- Take lead in the design,
development and implementation of interventions to strengthen and improve
health commodities supply chains - Work closely with the
Chief of Party to provide guidance and recommendations to develop and
tailor approaches and strategies for supply chain strengthening - Design and provide
capacity building and training initiatives to improve supply chain and
logistics management at the central and district levels - Work with other district
level health authorities to improve essential medicines commodities
management and health systems strengthening - Work in liaison with
partners and stakeholders to develop and deliver capacity building programs
to promote and sustain good pharmaceutical practices
Skills and Experience:
- The ideal USAID Supply
Chain System Specialist should hold a Master’s degree in international
development, public health, logistics management, business administration,
economics, or related field of study - At least ten years’
experience implementing supply chain system improvement programs of
similar size and scope in developing countries (especially in Uganda or
the East Africa region) - Demonstrated knowledge
and skills in health commodity procurement, warehousing, distribution and
logistics management information systems - Extensive knowledge and
experience in global health areas including HIV/AIDS, Malaria, TB, FP,
RMNCH, etc. - Excellent coordination
skills and the ability to work with stakeholders in multiple sectors - Excellent communication
