Job Summary: The UNICEF Communication for Development Specialist will be responsible for the design, management, execution, monitoring and evaluation of a communication for development strategy in support of the country programme’s expected results, with strong emphasis on social mobilization, knowledge, attitude and behaviour change for accelerating progress on child survival and development (for a medium-sized country of more than $ 55 million annual throughput).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The prospective UNICEF applicant must hold an advanced university degree in the Communication for Development or in social/behavoural sciences, (Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Health Education) with emphasis on participatory communication, communication planning, social mobilization, participatory research, training and impact evaluation of communication interventions.
  • At least eight years of progressively responsible work experience in the planning and management of social development programmes, including four years in developing countries, with practical experience in the adaptation and application of communication planning processes to specific programmes.
  • Extensive understanding and knowledge of current developments in the fields of communication theory, motivational psychology, adult learning theory, indigenous media, community organization and participation.
  • Training in strategic communication planning, behaviour analysis, formative research and evaluation of communication interventions.
  • Possess the ability to organize and implement training, including development of curricula and methodologies.
  • Fluency in English and another UN language required.   Knowledge of the local working language of the duty station is an asset.
