Agroforestry or ICRAF) is an independent research institution which generates science-based knowledge about the complex role trees play in agricultural landscapes and rural livelihoods. As part of the Centre’s work to bring tree-based solutions to bear on poverty and environmental problems, researchers – working in close collaboration with partners – are developing new technologies, tools and policy recommendations for increased food security and ecosystem health.
The Centre’s headquarters are located in Nairobi, Kenya, and research is conducted in more than 30 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We are supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and receive funding from over 50 different donors.
Job Summary: The Driver / Field Assistant will facilitate transport to staff and support logistics and field activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drive project staff to different destinations as and when called upon.
- Perform daily operational inspection of vehicle including tyres, lights, brakes, gas, oil and water.
- Conduct routine maintenance and facilitate minor and major repairs.
- Follow and keep updated on traffic rules, regulations, standards and guidelines.
- Maintain good communication with supervisors and report all irregularities whenever they arise.
- Deliver mail, messages and other materials in liaison with supervisors and fellow staff.
- Facilitate Airport transfers for both national and international staff.
- Offer technical support to logistical assignments from the Administration and Finance Officer as well as the Country Representative. Support preparation of demonstration material for use duringfarmer training.
- Photocopy and prepare training material when needed .
- Make appointments and bookings for training/meeting events.
- Support data collection/ enumeration under minimum supervision
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate should possess an Advanced Level certificate or equivalent
- Three or more years’ experience as a driver in a reputable organisation.
- Practical support of field activities will be an added advantage.
- Professional Driving skills-Valid Driving License
- Knowledge of the vehicle system and basic mechanics
- Effective communication
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Report writing
- Computer (MS-word, Email)
