About ICRAF:
The World Agroforestry Centre (also known as the
International Centre for Research in
Agroforestry or ICRAF) is an independent research
institution which generates science-based knowledge about the complex role
trees play in agricultural landscapes and rural livelihoods. As part of the
Centre’s work to bring tree-based solutions to bear on poverty and environmental
problems, researchers – working in close collaboration with partners – are
developing new technologies, tools and policy recommendations for increased
food security and ecosystem health.
The Centre’s headquarters are located in Nairobi,
Kenya, and research is conducted in more than 30 countries in Africa, Asia and
Latin America. We are supported by the Consultative Group on International
Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and receive funding from over 50 different
donors.
Job Summary: The Livestock Feeds Advisor will facilitate the dissemination of
improved feed technologies.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Build and grow the
    technical capacity of Producer organization leaders and extension agents
    in assessment of existing feeds used by farmers and other available feeds
    that can be introduced and disseminated.
  • Technically support
    mobilization of farmers into working groups that are targeted by the
    project in testing various feed technologies.
  • Identify, build and
    strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders in specific areas of
    operation that have high potential for helping dairy farmers to adopt new
    feed technologies.
  • Raise awareness on
    Climate Smart Agriculture in relation to dairy and feeding through
    organizing and conducting field days, demonstrations and farmer meetings.
  • Assist and actively
    participate in research work that will enhance availability of improved
    feeds and fodder.
  • Represent WAC during
    cluster meeting.
  • Build technical capacity
    of Producer organization leaders, extension agent, farmers’ trainers and
    farmers.
  • Work in liaison with
    other EADD partner.
  • Backstop the CCAFs
    project deliverables.
  • Support and contribute to
    fundraising initiatives.
  • Contribute to science by
    publishing articles and manuals.
Qualifications,
Skills and Experience:  
  • The ideal candidate
    should possess a good bachelor’s degree in agricultural and livestock
    production sciences, natural resources management, or business
    administration.
  • At least three (3) years’
    experience in a related area of expertise. Prior experience working in the
    dairy sector, agricultural or livestock extension, development of
    agricultural enterprises and promotion of fodder shrubs and herbaceous
    legumes will be added advantage.

  • Good data collection and
    analysis.
  • Technical Report writing.
  • Excellent communication
    and negotiation skills

    (MS word, Excel, power point, email).
