The USAID/Uganda
Private Health Support Program aims to strengthen, organize and mobilize the
private health sector to provide Ugandans with the option of high-quality
services. The Program’s key objectives are: 1) expanded availability of health
services by private service providers; 2) increased affordability of private
health services and products; and 3) improved quality of private health sector
facilities and services.
Job Summary: The Quality and Accreditation Associate for
the USAID Uganda Private Health Support Program will have the responsibility of
strengthening quality of services among partner facilities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Support
private health facilities to offer Quality services:
  • Proactively coordinate with program partners to train private
    practitioners on national quality of care standards
  • Manage the Implementation of Continuous Professional Development for
    private sector staffs
  • He/She will work with private health facilities to ensure provision
    of healthcare services that meet national standards. These services
    include safe male circumcision (SMC), MCH, FP, TB, PMTCT-Option B+,
    nutrition, services targeting adolescents and young adults, malaria, ART
    and OVC services.
  • Provide on-going support supervision and mentorship for both the
    private facilities and the Program’s grantees to ensure standard provision
    of services.
2. Develop a
voluntary accreditation program:
  • Work closely with program partners to finalize quality of care
    standards based on National Clinical Standards and design the peer
    accreditation program for private sector facilities.
  • Ensure that facilities adhere to accreditation standards
3. Expand the
Private Public Partnership Laboratory Network:
  • Create an inventory of regional reference laboratory services and
    assess current capacities, explore payment options within the public
    regional reference laboratory through PPP mechanisms
  • Build and strengthen linkages between smaller laboratories and
    regional hubs or the National Private Reference laboratory to allow sample
    transportation for laboratory tests for critical intervention areas;
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The suitable candidate would need to possess a graduate degree in
    Medicine, public health or related clinical field
  • At least five years’ relevant work experience, including in
    developing accreditation
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical practice in resource-
    constrained settings for one or more of the following areas: SMC, MCH, FP,
    TB, Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT-Option B+),
    nutrition and ART
  • Additional qualifications in capacity building areas (training,
    quality improvement, systems strengthening) is desired
  • Past experience working with private health sector facilities in
    Uganda
  • Significant experience in Technical Advisor roles for health
    services improvement
  • Possess the ability to carry out facility specific assessments and
    draw plans for program interventions’ success
  • Possess a willingness to travel extensively within the Program’s 44
    partner districts in Uganda.
