Sector:
to reducing by half the number of people who lack access to clean and safe
drinking water and sanitation by 2015. Access to clean and safe drink water and
good sanitation is very critical for human development, economic prosperity and
attaining social dignity. In the WASH sector, SNV delivers it services and
products mainly through four programme areas:
- Sustainable Rural Water Supply (SRWS)
- Sustainable Sanitation & Hygiene for
All Programme (SSHA) - Sustainable water and sewerage services in
peri-urban and small towns (WSST) - WASH in Schools (WiS)
brokerage and knowledge development to facilitate market development. SNV works
with cross-sectional number of clients, customers/donors and users to develop
contextualized solution to local challenges and constraints.
Responsibilities:
members to undertake activities in the following broad areas:
- Contribute to the development and
implementation of sanitation and hygiene promotion approaches, in line
with the project framework; - Strengthen the capacity of selected local
government structures/ institutions to improve access to sanitation
services; - Actively participate in the establishment
of vibrant SH Actors’ Multi-stakeholder Platforms (MSPs); - Facilitate contacts between WASH
stakeholders (sector institutions, service providers, funding agencies,
private sector organizations, etc.); - Participate in engagement and capacity
building of local capacity builders (LCBs) to ensure that they deliver
high quality advisory services; - Coaching and mentoring of other WASH
advisors/LCB/Consultants and interns on relevant intervention strategies,
developments, etc. - Engage in discussions for policy
influencing to improve the enabling environment, based on evidence from
SNV practice. - Facilitate evaluation and impact
assessment of the advisory interventions both at Client/Partner level and
beneficiary level. - Offer substantive inputs to project
reporting and contribute to WASH positioning and product development.
- Contribute to partnership development and
management through linkages with sector stakeholders - Technically support the WASH team and the
Project manager in resource mobilization by identifying appropriate
resource mobilization opportunities and preparing concepts/proposals
accordingly.
- Facilitate learning and knowledge development
on best practices within the WASH sector; - Support documentation of case studies,
best practices and emerging models from SNV practice; - Participate in internal and external
learning and networking events relevant to the WASH sector’s programmes. - Effective participation and contribution
in the SNV country WASH sector group - Contributes to SNV Uganda knowledge base
in WASH
Experience:
- The applicant should ideally possess a masters’
degree in community development and mobilization discipline; - A minimum of five years’ relevant working
experience in the Ugandan WASH sector; - Strong and proven experience in sanitation
demand creation and related approaches on sanitation in rural communities - Possess a good understanding of the sanitation
and hygiene sector in Uganda; - Proven track record in capacity building
and working in projects with dear result frameworks; - Demonstrated competences in facilitating
multi-stakeholder processes; - Strong commitment, passion and positive
attitude to work; - Ability to work independently in various
environments and geographic settings; - Strong analytical, communication and
report writing skills; - Preferably being exposed to innovative
best practices in behavioral change communication; - Experience in linking with private sector
enterprises for sanitation products
