Practicing Communities in Southern Karamoja” is a two-year project funded by a
European Union grant (EuropeAid). The project activities will take place in
Amudat, Moroto and Nakapiripirit Districts in Karamoja among the Tepeth and
Kadama communities, and will be implemented in a DCA-led consortium comprising
three other organizations namely Italian Cooperation and Development (C&D),
Reproductive, Educative and Community Health (REACH) and the Human Rights
Network (HURINET).
responsibility of the Project Assistant, SGBV is to support DCA Programme
Officer and Programme Coordinator in the overall field coordination in the
implementation and coordination of the EuropeAid project.
- Support the Regional Representative in
branding and communications efforts and in managing the content of media
work in Uganda and internationally with particular focus on Denmark. - Technically guide and build capacity on
communication and media to DCA programme staff and partner organisations,
including in relation to advocacy campaigns. - Build and maintain relations with media,
communities and others in order to plan and facilitate visits and the
production of stories. - ‘Editor’ of DCA intranet, social media and
websites - Work in close liaison with media teams in
Denmark to identify and prepare case stories from partners’ projects and
ensure that text, photo/video material is available for publications and
reports. - Support the implementation of the project
visibility plan and provide inputs to possible visibility actions, e.g.
writing of articles, pictures, DCA website etc. - Offer support to partners liaising and
coordination with all relevant stakeholders and support the strengthening
of referral pathways where possible and needed. - Identify and share with partners’ best
practices for improvement of the project. - Work in close collaboration with all
relevant DCA staff and contribute to the overall objectives and programmes
of DCA. - Responsible for securing a strong
mainstreaming of a rights-based and gender-inclusive approach within the
action.
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the DCA Project
Assistant, SGBV vacancy should possess a good university degree in the
field of Social Sciences e.g. Social Work, Development Management with
good working knowledge of human rights, HIV/AIDS, gender issues, project
management and social behavioral change. - Demonstrated experience and direct
involvement in the implementation of project(s) using behavioral change
methodologies. - A minimum of three years’ experience in
some other fields relevant for this project, in particular: duty-bearer
and rights-holder engagement, advocacy, community participatory
approaches. - Excellent report writing skills both
narrative and financial. - Proven track record and experience in
gender mainstreaming and rights-based approaches, both theoretically and
in practice. - Excellent interpersonal and communication
skills, and capacity to work with a partner-based approach. - Highly flexible, pro-active,
self-motivated and able to organize work independently as well as be
willing to work within a team. - Computer literacy skills i.e. Proficiency
of Microsoft Office required. - Fluency in English (verbal and written).
- Fluency in Ngakaramojong is an advantage
but not a requirement. - Good working knowledge of the Karamoja and
Pokot socio-economic and cultural contexts and national legislation, in
particular in gender responsive laws. - Past experience in field operations of
EU-funded projects in an advantage.
