- Support in carrying out value chain assessments of smallholder pig value chains with multiple stakeholders;
- Assist in monitoring of field trials and other interventions with farmers and other actors of the pig value chain;
- Enter field data into Excel or Access, analyze and draft technical reports;
- Support in organizing project workshops;
- Collect gender-disaggregated field data on specific indicators in line with the livestock and fish research program’s monitoring and evaluation framework for the Uganda pig value chain, in collaboration with the Gender and Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist;.
- Select useful information for broader communication to multiple stakeholders, in collaboration with the communications specialist;
- Perform any other duties related to the project activities that may be assigned by the project coordinator.
- The ideal candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Economics, Agriculture and Extension, Veterinary or other relevant discipline.
- At least three years’ experience in livestock production, animal health or socio-economics, addressing agricultural development issues, operational/action research, or other related areas.
- Past exposure and experience in conducting surveys, organizing data collection activities, working directly with farmers and their families.
- Extensive understanding and knowledge of innovation systems, gender issues and value chain analysis concepts.
- Proficiency in the use of MS Office packages, as well as ability to develop databases and prepare required documentation from them.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, which will be key to support the facilitation of stakeholder workshops and training programs for all actors of the value chain, as well as to participate effectively in a multicultural, multidisciplinary team.
- Highly effective multi-tasking skills, with ability to coordinate, prioritize, and organize workload, meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Sound judgment and initiative and the ability to work with a high degree of independence within assigned areas
- Fluency in oral and written English and the local languages in the project sites (specifically Luganda, Luo and Lunyoro).
- Willingness to travel frequently.
- Possess a Valid motor cycle driving permit.
