About Fistula Care Plus
Project:
EngenderHealth Uganda received an
award (cooperative agreement) by USAID for a Fistula Care plus project whose
objective is to strengthen health system capacity for fistula prevention,
detection, treatment and reintegration. The project will strengthen
environments to enable for fistula prevention and treatment, increase community
awareness and support for women and girls with fistula, reduce barriers to
accessing prevention, detection, and care, and improve the evidence base for
approaches to improve fistula care in the districts of Hoima, Masaka, Kalungu
and Kasese.
Job Summary: The Accountant is expected to offer technical
support in the application of accounting principles in analyzing financial
information and prepare financial reports for EngenderHealth. She/he will
support operations of the office including Human resources.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Administration
    of the country program’s accounting, monitoring and reporting system,
    including establishing internal control systems in accordance with
    EngenderHealth standard operating procedures.
  • Work with
    the management to develop and coordinate the annual budgeting process for
    the country program and the new project proposals.
  • Review
    all payment vouchers for completeness and accuracy  before approval for payment
  • Prepare
    monthly financial reports (Post journals, bank reconciliations) and timey
    responding to queries form H/O.
  • Maintaining
    a good Cash flow management system and prepare cash advance request to
    H/O.
  • Monthly
    reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
  • Reviewing
    the Sage X3 Uganda ledger against the Quick books ledger and reconciling
    where the two have differences.
  • Prepare
    Budget vs Expense reports and monitor the office project fund balance
  • (Pipeline
    report) and other donor reports as required.
  • Coordinate
    the preparation of the office financial year-end procedures, year- end
    schedules and prepare audit schedule.
  • Ability
    to work with both external and internal audits at the country office
  • Responsible
    for Sub-award management.
  • Manage
    the office staff advances.
  • Ensure
    that all office contracts are well managed and followed up including
    utilities, insurance for vehicles etc.
  • Maintain
    the staff HR personnel files updated.
  • Manage
    the monthly Payroll process and prepare the payroll allocation.
  • Manage
    the office local statutory returns, by ensuring that returns are submitted
    and Paid on time (URA, VAT, WHT, NSSF and LST to KCCA).
  • Ensure
    the compliance of the organization Standard Operating Procedure.
  • Oversee
    and provide support to the Accounts Assistant.
  • Perform
    any other comparable duties may be assigned to this position from time to
    time, in general support of EngenderHealth activities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    applicant should hold a good bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related
    field from a recognized institution.
  • Professional
    accounting certification of CPA or ACCA.
  • At least
    five years’ experience as an accountant in an Audit Firm or commercial
    experience.
  • Computer
    literacy skills i.e. excellent use of accounting packages/programs
    including Excel, Word and QuickBooks would be an advantage.
  • Possess
    high degree of integrity with developed interpersonal skills and people
    management skills
