Job Summary: The Child Protection in Emergency Officer for the Plan International
South Sudan Refugee Response will work in collaboration with volunteers,
partners staff, school teachers, staff of social welfare department, child
protection committees and children councils in relevant areas of operation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Help the Child Protection Specialist in the
    preparation of “Emergency Child Protection Programme Strategy”, by doing
    assessments, situational analysis, by fostering child participation in
    activities/planning/ monitoring, and arranging planning & review
    meetings with partners and beneficiaries
  • Oversee and work with CP Project animators and
    volunteers to draft monthly project implementation plans, for respective
    location, as a derivative of annual emergency project implementation plan.
  • Support the CP Project Animators and
    volunteers/partners to follow up on identified vulnerable cases and ensure
    that the case management and referral mechanism is in place to support the
    children especially in service provision.
  • Offer guidance and assistance to the
    volunteers/CFS animators in running the Child Friendly Spaces and
    non-formal education classes, community mobilisation activities, and
    support in formation of Child Protection Committees and Children’s
    Clubs. 
  • With support from the Emergency Response
    Manager and Technical specialists, conduct trainings and awareness raising
    activities for the communities, Children, Volunteers and Partner staff on
    identified topics on overall child protection.
  • Produce and submit weekly, monthly and
    quarterly reports on project activities as required to the Child
    Protection specialist.
  • Prepare weekly activities plans with volunteers
    and partners and ensure smooth implementation of these plans, monitor
    activities in Child Friendly Spaces and Non  Formal Education centres.
  • Arrange & attend periodic meetings of Child
    Protection Committees and meetings of Children councils/clubs and record
    progress and minutes.
  • Ensure that child safeguarding standards are
    understood and met
  • In coordination with the Child Protection team
    members, support regular participatory activities with different groups of
    children to identify issues affecting children in their communities, and
    assist the teams to develop appropriate responses
  • Report general protection issues present in the
    operational areas to the Child Protection Specialist/Emergency Response
    Manager
  • Ensure effective links and referral systems
    (health, education, psychosocial, etc.) are developed or identified as
    appropriate with camp services and or other emergency initiatives.
  • Advocate and lobby for when necessary to ensure
    that other international and local service providers in the area act on
    behalf of children affected by the emergency in relation to the Child
    Friendly Spaces
  • Attend area specific meetings with authorities,
    partner organisations, UN, NGOs etc for the representation of activities
    and plans and exchange of information as required.
  • Perform any other job duties as assigned by the
    Child Protection Specialist.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant is required to possess one year’s
    experience  in child protection /
    emergency projects with relevant trainings/ workshops
  • Possess the ability to carry out assessments
    and analyze situation, make work plans and help staff to implement these
    plans.
  • Good understanding of child protection notably
    establishing & monitoring activities in Child Friendly Spaces and non
    – formal education centers
  • Possess the ability to consistently prepare
    weekly progress reports based on data collection and monitoring visits
    from the field by using computerised reporting formats
  • Possess the ability to communicate
    professionally  with partners,
    volunteers and counter parts in relevant departments 
  • Flexible to work in field and travel for long
    hours for meeting the emergency project requirements
  • Show high interest  in areas of child protection and  emergency education; back ground of
    dealing with children & young people
  • Exhibit commitment to and understanding of Plan
    International aims, values and principles.
  • Computer literacy skills i.e. proficiency in
    Microsoft Office suite and e-mails/ web browsing etc
  • Ability to communicate in English through
    verbal and written communication.
