Living
Goods is a non-profit organization headquartered in
the United States and currently operating in Uganda. Its goal is
to build a sustainable distribution platform for products designed to fight
poverty and disease in the developing world. Specifically, Living Goods
operates networks of independent entrepreneurs who make a living by selling
cheap products to poor people that can help improve their health, wealth, and
productivity. One of the selling techniques used by Living Goods entrepreneurs
is door-to-door selling, and Living Goods has been likened to Avon
Products in terms of its marketing style. The project aims to be
fully self-funded at scale.
Job Summary: The Technology and Data Lead will be responsible for managing all our
existing systems in Uganda and leading the deployment of new systems, services,
tools, and strategies that improve our profitability and deepen our impact. At
Living Goods, we believe that our technology and data systems will become our
most transformative tools for success: empowering our agents to sell and earn
more, dramatically lowering our cost to market and monitor, enabling real time
sales force management and igniting social connections that drive impact and
business success. Living Goods’ future success increasingly depends on the
mastery of data, communications and the latest mobile tools, apps and
technologies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Lead all
technology related efforts which include:
  • Management of all existing systems – SMS messaging, Mobile Money,
    POS etc.
  • Rollout new technology initiatives
  • Provide support to marketing team and other teams
  • Work with software vendors
2. Lead all
data related efforts, working across several data systems:
  • Manage existing data extraction and reporting efforts
  • Create new data reports as required, setup processes for ongoing
    report generation
  • Create and execute processes to maintain data integrity and clean up
    data issues
3. In addition,
the Technology and Data Lead will be expected to: 
  • Support and train staff related to technology and data
  • Manage and mentor junior resources
  • Communicate extensively with an international team
  • Report progress extensively
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant should hold at least three to five years of work
    experience in Technology and Data management in Uganda
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills
  • Good knowledge of databases and database design
  • Some knowledge of Android, Java, PHP, MySql, HTML
  • Ability to work with minimal direction
  • Experience managing resources
  • Experience dealing with software vendors
  • Experience with data management
  • Desirable but not required skills – knowledge of POS systems, Mobile
    Money systems
  • Local language proficiency is strongly preferred and
    encouraged.
