Support Manager
75 years ago, Plan International is one of the oldest and largest children’s
development organizations in the world. We work in 50 developing countries
across Africa, Asia and the Americas to promote child rights and lift millions
of children out of poverty. Plan’s vision is of a world in which all children
realize their full potential in societies that respect people’s rights and
dignity. Plan is independent, with no religious, political or governmental affiliations.
Uganda received funding from Educate a Child (EAC) to implement a four-year
project in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) through
the District Education Offices in Lira and Kamuli. The Project aims to support
60,000 out of school children (OOSC) to enroll and stay in school over a
four-year duration with a special focus on girls, children with disabilities,
children affected by conflict, children living in extreme poverty and orphans.
Responsibilities:
- Take lead
in the development of annual and quarterly implementation plans and
budgets. - Lead,
mentor and manage a team of Project Facilitators, Project Accountant,
external service providers and the Learning and Documentation Coordinator.
- Offer
leadership and quality assurance in the mapping of Out of School Children
(OoSC) to target them for enrollment whilst engaging with Plan Uganda’s
technical experts. - Lead the
mobilization campaigns on enrollment though mass media and community school
meetings - Responsible
for budget management and ensuring effective utilization of project
resources in accordance with Plan’s project goals. - Conduct
regular performance review meetings to assess project progress and
communicate any strategy changes with key stakeholders in the realization
of the project’s goals - Conduct
staff performance management and participate in the selection and
appointment of new staff in adherence to the operational procedures. - Ensure
Plan’s Child Protection Policy and guidelines are adhered to in project
implementation. - Represent
Plan Uganda and the project with partners, government and other agencies
at national level. - Perform
any other tasks in accordance to the project expectations.
& Experience:
- The candidate
should possess a Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in Education, Gender
Studies, Social Sciences, Law or Human Rights or its equivalent - Additional
post graduate diploma in Administration or Project Management - A minimum
of five years in managing development projects - Prior
experience in working with community organizations, schools and district
local government structures - A minimum
of five years’ experience in coordination school-based education projects
and staff with technical expertise in Equity and Quality in Education
Project - Past
advocacy experience and knowledge in civil society strengthening - Good
knowledge and understanding of development education aims, methodologies
and content; project management skills - Good
computer literacy skills i.e. knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Excellent
communication skills and proficiency in both written and spoken English - Knowledge
of Child protection issues, girls’ rights and gender equality programming - Knowledge
of community and school score cards will be highly advantageous
